    Browning Hi-power

I'm patting myself on the back. Today got my new/old Browning out of the Wait jail. It is a True Belgian Browning with adjustable sights. Sweet piece.
Not really a defense gun, since I prefer .45 ACP for that. But if it's all I have at the time, a few well placed hollow points will ruin a thugs whole week!

Nice, hard to beat the classic wonder nines.

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Nice going, I'v had a few over the years, the one I have now I bought in the early 80's.

I had a Class 3 dealer near my shop, he swore by them, the only ammunition he would shoot in them was Israili SMG ammo, in those days it was cheap and plentiful so I shot it in mine with out any problems, you can't beat a forged, milled frame for toughness.

About 10 years ago I had the receiver magnafluxed, because it was free, and found NO cracks in the receiver.

I haven't paid attention to firearms for a while and believe they are no longer made in Belgium, what a shame.

They are made by FN in Belgium and the current cast frames are stronger than the forged frames.

They had to go to the cast frames because while developing the 40 S&W model, the forged frames weren't holding up to the higher pressure caliber.

I've had an original Belgian Hi Power for decades, and it is fantastic. Easily the most accurate pistol in my collection.

I have a 30 year old belgian, eats up anything you put thru it, from 95gr round nose to 147 gr sub sonic hollow points. The only thing thats not out of the box are the amidex Pachmayr grips. Glock who?

I'v been in manufacturing all my life, most of the time as a certified welder, part of the time as a manual machinest.

I think if you asked a dozen mechanical engineers what they would prefer, a cast part or a forged part, except to cut the cost waaay down they would prefer a forging.

I, having grown up with the knowledge that forged is always better than cast, certainly don't fault you for your skepticism, and the truth is FN could probably make forged frames as hard (or harder) as their cast frames, but the wear and tear of machining such hard steel would be cost prohibitive. Casting allows them to use a much harder alloy because the cast frames just need some cleaning up, rather than the extensive machining required with forging.

A BHP was the first gun I bought on my own at 21. Love that gun- it's shot a bazillion rounds without fail. Now it's more of a safe queen, but it will never be sold- having a grip of 30 round magazines is nice.

That is a great link, Katana. I too am surprised at the cast vs. forged idea.

                              However, this is just silly:
