single stack 9mm suggestions?

Like a few have suggested, since you like the 1911, get it in a 9mm.

A few good single stack 9mm pistols:
-HK P7M8
-Kahr (all)
-Sig P6/P225/P239
-S&W 3913

Or maybe something with interchangeable backstraps would work:
-Beretta Px4
-FN FNP9
-HK P2000
-S&W M&P
-Walter P99

You may also consider the Browning Hi Power, CZ 75D/P-01, Ruger SR9, Springfield XD, or Taurus PT 111.

The Sig P239 is a good choice for a single stack 9mm.

I am not an expert in this area, but the SIG seems like a total winner for the situation.

You could also look for a Beretta 92FS Compact Type M. It is a single stack 9mm.

But dont count the Browning Hi Power out. Its relatively slim with a 13rd mag capacity. And its 1911-ish.. Sort of..

If size is the primary reason for seeking a single stack, don't rule out something like a springfield XD. I have small hands as well, and I love my 9mm Colt 1911. But the XD fits my hand well even though it is a double stack. The grip is molded closer to the mag than a Glock for example, so it is quite comfortable and the trigger reach is closer. Feels better to me than almost any Sig.

A Browning Mark III is another very comfortable option for the small hand, but not for the small wallet.

I was also about to chime in that a 1911 in 9mm would be a good "2 birds w/ 1 stone" solution. Then again.. I know some 1911 purists who'll think 9mm on a 1911 is heresy...

Hey.... I am told shooting 9mm in a 1911 is a dream. Low recoil, cheap to feed and it's a 1911.

i'll try out my grip on the XDs and Kahrs when I have time to stop by the gunshop(s).

As for the 1911, the one reason I hesitated is because my gunnie friends would indeed think I am heretical for having a 1911 in 9mm. After much thinking, I've come to the conclusion that the 1911 is my favorite platform and caliber is secondary to platform.

I've read that .38 super 1911s can be changed to 9mm with a barrel swap and weaker recoil spring. Before you flame me, I would only use the 9mm for target practice at the range because it is cheaper centerfire ammo. I'd use the normal configuration and proper ammo for SD.

I think this gives me the best of both worlds: more affordable 9mm ammo, and a hotter load for defense.

any information on the how-tos of this conversion would be great! thanks guys

As an owner of two P6s, the only downsides I can outline are a) the factory mags only hold 8rds (vs. 10rds from Promag), and b) the factory mags run ~$40/ea if you can find them.

I took out my new to me 3914 tonight.... It outshot my new 226 SIG... and my P6 SIG, I took a chance and purchased this instead of the 239...
Boy am I glad I did... I've stumbled upon perhaps the best little single stack 9mm I've ever shot... Either the 3913 or 3914 would be a good choice...
They are nice and Thin, Light weight, accurate with a great DA/SA trigger. 8+1. The purchase price was just over $400 used... my best buy yet!
