The professional is a separate gun and it's listed on te roster. If you want it, call SA and 1/2 deposit, then wait.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I ask because I didn't see the Professional listed on the Springfield website

the Professional isn't the easiest thing to find on the web site...the closest is the TRP which isn't the same as the TRP Professional. the Professional comes from the Custom shop the TRP doesn't.

i just looked on the roster and saw 3 listings for Professional models: regular, ambi safety and light rail

SA Pro PC9111 and one with light rail which are both on the list

There seems to be a lot of misinformation that the only place to get the Pro is to order it via SA. Last year, it took me four days to find an in stock PC9111LR for significantly below MSRP. They are definitely out there if you do the research.

            Ducman,

Which one did you order? I have been thinking about getting the railed one, PC9111LR, to go with my regular SA Pro.

Does the custom shop take 1911's from other manufacturers?

Yes, Sir, it is. A Japanese Ducati...

I wouldn't be willing to give up my RC for a SA Pro either...

The custom 1911 worksheet on the website includes the following under the "CUSTOM GUN WORK TERMS" section: "We will work on any quality 1911-A1 style, XD, or XDM pistol. We reserve the right to refuse to work on any pistol determined to be of inferior quality...."

I'm not sure what the cut-off point for a "quality 1911-A1" would be for the SA Custom Shop, mind you.

Both will function superbly, except the build up one will not have the same rollmarks as the factory professional model.

Of course there is, for one, Budsgunshop sells them.

But the OP's question centered around the SA Custom Shop, not "where" to get it.

I'm not sure why you care but there are a total of 5 other posters in this thread that mention "order[ing]" the Pro from SA. Maybe I was pointing it out to them. On behalf of the OP you represent, is that acceptable to you? BTW, Buds rarely has them in stock.

                            Resale and Value

                            Mr. EChang86,

Having owned several Professionals and CRG-Operators, your best bet is to find one (1911) in this (Custom shop CRG prefix) configuration. Rarely will you be able to recoup the money spent on 'customization' because it was 'customized' for you, not the next guy. I think you will second guess yourself if you send in a non-CRG framed 1911 (which will by definition not be roll-marked Professional) because when others talk about their "Pro's" you have the distant cousin to them and are not along the same 'bloodline' for coronation if you catch what I'm saying.

The Professional has a certain mystique because of the FBI HRT/SWAT team's adoption of them as the official sidearm. Many LE and Military Operators buy their own for 'use.' It's the same reason why certain people covet a Cal (Bezerkley)/StandFurd/HardVurd education. It represents a certain elitist branding. You can get by with something else but it does not have the same brand name recognition.

Almost all Professional(s) and Railed Professionals called Operator(s) are very well built by the elves in Springfield Custom Shop.

A more economical way to get most of the bells and whistles is to get Springfield's custom line called the 'custom carry' and they actually Roll-mark them saying exactly that.

I've shot a lot of high end 1911's and I was shocked by how well the Springfield Custom FBI/Professionals shoot. However, I have to say, they are not all the same. They feel the same initially but once you get to 'know' your FBI/Professional, it's yours. You will always know how it feels: it's trigger let off, how it recoils and impacts upon the target, how the safety engages and disengages and where the brass lands (sometime on your head).

There are certainly very nice high end 1911's and plenty of dealers and makers willing to take your hard earned money. However, the Professional is recognized as a no-nonsense Operator's pistol and has withstood testing, deployment and has a lifetime warranty of which the Custom Shop stands.

IMH opinion there is no finer line of 1911 45ACP out there. You just have to find your own. I thought what is the KRAZE with the Professional? ... why would anyone pay over $2K for a stupid 1911! I changed my mind when I handled them and fired them extensively. Now they are in the $3K territory. That is actually in line with what Wilson and Nighthawk charges for their upper line of 1911's.

                            Take care,

                              Thanks for the response guys.

My objective of asking was to find out if there would be a difference in performance, quality, reliability in ordering a CRG#### vs sending in a 1911 and upgrading to the specs. I should have specified earlier.

I see these rare guns go for almost $3k, and I just wondered, why don't people just send in a base model 1911 to match the specs. I guess, the additional amount you pay is for that Professional stamp, and one of the pedigrees among the bloodline Ddindetroit speaks of.

My intentions aren't to buy a SA GI and send it in for the package tune up and then claim I have a SA Professional. I just wanted to know if I'm spending the extra dough; will I be getting more?

So from what I understand, the upgrade package will lead to a 1911 that will function the same. However, the resale value will be bad.

You don't pay extra just for the stamp. The slide to frame fit is better from the getgo, and more durable as well.
