I'm thinking about picking up a 1911. I've decided on the Colt XSE but can't decide on whether I should go SS or the blued version. What is your preference and are there advantages for SS vs blued or vice versa? Thanks in advanced.

Blued vs SS

I picked up a new kimber ultra carry 10 years ago in blued cause they had one on the shelf and i could take it that day (lived in AZ at the time ) but wanted the stainless and had to order it , i took instant gratification instead of what i wanted , still want the stainless one , blued disadvantage if you use it, wears off around muzzle area thats the only prob."False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crime." - Cesare Beccaria, quoted by Thomas Jefferson -
ss is alot more durable in regards to every day carry, and use. the stainless will show wear but not in the manner that the blued gun will. the blued gun is more likely to rust or start to showing rust from sweat. the stainless will not at all. but the blued being more stealthy will not glare or show as much should you accidentally flash your weapon while ccw. ss just has a flash or glare that blued guns dont have.Natural selection has arrived!!!Comment

I vote for blue. It's tough to beat that deep bluing. Mmm....Comment

Blue for me!
A blued gun just ooozes with class esp. when highlighted by either ivory grips, reddish brown wood grips, or the stag grips.
Also, I like blued guns when faded with age and use.... yummmmmLast edited by DArBad; 01-28-2010, 6:41 PM.Comment

To me it depends on the gun, revolver would be ss, semi-auto I could go either way. That said I would pick a blued 1911 over a stainless any day. It comes down to personal choice. If you can't decide, get one of each like joeAR47 said. When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say,
For Their Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today"Comment

Is it okay to like both?
I have guns in both blue and stainless, and admire both types of finish. The stainless is probably more durable for a gun subjected to hard use and the elements. But the blued has an attractive, classic appearance that is very appealing. If the gun is mainly for range use and never holstered or carried, the blue finish holds up indefinitely.
So get some of each.
