    Handgun Transportation ?

What is the legal way to transport a handgun?

I have been told several different stories from both the DOJ and gun shops.

I have been told to lock the handgun in a CA approved locked box with ammo stored in a seperate compartment in the vehicle.

I have also been told that if the gun is locked in a box with loaded magazines in there, it is ok as long as the loaded mags are out of the gun.

Lately I have just been putting both in seperate locked boxes to be safe and loading mags when I get where I am shooting.

    Help~!

And of course there's always the Calguns Foundation Wiki for answers to FAQs.
ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

        Locked container. Bam. That's it.

Your trunk counts as a locked container if it's completely locked an inaccessible from the inside of your car.

So I can have my mags loaded in the lockbox with the gun as long as they are not in the gun? Someone at the gun store told me that I cannot have loaded mags.

The whole point is that the gun is UN-loaded. Loaded mags do not make the gun loaded. You can have loaded mags with a gun that is unloaded.

All of your questions are answered here. Someone at the gun store is wrong and/or dumb. Do not listen to dumb people. They are frequently wrong.

The only thing I've never gotten a firm confirmation on is.. what is considered a secured locked container. I see all these soft containers that has zippers that you can hook a small lock on to.. but I don't know if that would count. If that were the case.. would a backpack with the same treatment count as a secured locked container?

From what I've read on calguns and in the law, a locked container is a locked container. The material the container is made out of does not enter into consideration. If you get pulled over and searched, YMMV.

Correct. Soft sided is ok except for TSA. Make sure when you lock a zippered case you use the small holes at te base. If you can unzip enought to work in a finger, you have a problem...

But I don't understand why since it has to be unloaded it would be fireable with said finger????

I don't get this either (well, I guess I do considering), has anyone got more creditable information on this?
