I would buy a longslide but it probably wouldnt be my first or only 1911. I need to have a government A1 model in my possession at all times...

I can't speculate on price as I don't know what that model cost when new, nor would I have any desire to own a longslide (I think they're ugly and poorly balanced, my favorite is the Commander followed by the Government), but I'll go out on a limb and say that I've had more work done at Springfield Custom than anyone else on this forum. Pro, Custom Carry (sent back for more custom work - twice), they built me a TRP, a Les Baer, two Colt Commanders, a Colt Defender, and 1-2 other 1911's that I've forgotten about I'm sure. I've pared down my 1911 collection substantially and currently own three 1911's - my 5 inch Custom Carry which I bought in CA-legal guise and sent back to be totally redone, and two Colt Commanders that are full-house custom guns done by Dave Williams and his crew. I'm a perfectionist and demand fine attention to detail on my custom guns. In the 5 years or so I've been dealing with the Custom Shop, I've always been satisfied, and they've been very accommodating. Despite my personal opinions about longslide 1911's, if that's what you want, you will not find anything finer than a Springfield Custom Shop 1911.
