Question for Sig owners.

around 2000, when i first joined sigforum.com, one of the hotter threads was using mobil 1 as gun lube...

including coating the whole gun with it and then putting it into the oven to "bake" it in...

Tetra grease on rails and outside of barrel, Gun Butter or Hoppes oil on other moving parts and inside of barrel (when gun is not in use).

9mmepiphany has hit it on the head. This is the best way to go if you want long rail life for your Sig.
The break free and CLP type lubes are to thin for rail protection. They run and don't say put.. Slide Glide will stay where you put it.

Spoken lke a true Slide-Glide junkie! I bet your due to re-order another 55 gallon drum of it! You seem to really like your Germans well lubed!

I use TW25B on the rails. I believe this is what Sig recommends.

if you want to protect the rail life of your Sig, you'll use Slide Glide or Lubriplate grease on them. most oils aren't persistent enough to protect the rails in heavy practice

this isn't hype, it comes from the country's foremost Sig pistolsmith who sees hundred of Sig cross his bench every year. if you're going to a class or just shooting a lot in practice, lube the rails with grease...you can even put an oil float on top of the grease..

if it is a carry gun, you can go lighter to avoid attracting dirt...after all you'd be carrying it a lot and hopefully firing very few shots if you need it...so something like TW-25b or Miltech should be fine

you can do what you want with your gun, but this is just for maximun gun life...you could even use Rem-Oil, but i wouldn't suggest it

Conclusion: Grease on the rails. Oils will migrate away from the rails and you'll lose lubrication at one of your most important areas.

The problem with most synthetic oils is:

1.) They're not greases, so you don't want to use them on the slide
2.) They tend to separate on their own.

The separation aspect isn't so much important in a car because you re-mix the oil any time you turn over the engine, but that doesn't happen with a firearm. Best to stick to non-synthetic oils for the moving parts, and grease for the slide rails.

You betcha!!!! I will gladly spend $10.00 on a small amount of good protection when it is protecting $1000.00's of dollars worth of my guns. I think that this is money well spent... By the way I had to revise my order to include another tub of Slide Glide the last time I ordered it.. I think that guy was dg29...........Oh hay dg what's up....should have known it was you!... would you like me to include you on the next drum of Slide Glide I order, like last time..

Again I don't skimp on the application of the grease on my rails of my Sigs... like the other members that posted links to lube techniques. I also use a syringe type applicator and follow the instructions of Brian Enos:
