    Springfield XD40/HS2000 Magazine Compatibility

I've got a friend who has some old HS2000 magazines. From my understanding, the HS was the precursor to Springfield's XD series. If he were to buy a new XD9, would these mags (I don't know the exact capacity, but imagine they are more than 10 round as they come from the 1990's) be compatible with the XD?

Yes, the HS2000 mags will work in the XD9. I do not recall the HS2000 in a .40, though. The feeder lips on an XD40 mag is slightly wider than on an XD9/HS2000 mag.

Hs2000 mags and xd9 mags are identical. They will be 10 rounders. There never was a hs2000 in 40 cal in the usa. Now if your friend has some preban beretta, promag s&w model 59, and I think sig 9mm mags they can be made to work in the xd9. The mag catch hole just needs to be added to the front of the mag so they will lock in the gun. Mark

Just a fyi: The HS2000 is not a precursor to the XD. The HS is still made, but not sold in North America. When SA took over the importation rights for this gun, they renamed it the XD and sell it under that name in NA.

My understanding is, from what I recall when I was active on xdtalk.com, was they are both made in the Croatia factory where the Yugo used to be made.

My buddy just emailed me this linked article:

Looks like the HS2000 had a 15 round magazine for LE use. He looked at his mags, they don't have numbers on the backs that count off how many bullets would fit, but he said it sure looks like more than 10 rounds of 9mm would fit.

I told him I learned from CalGuns that the HS is identical to the XD9 (no changes to the pistol since Springfield took over 10 years ago?). He's going to go to our local range and rent an XD9, then quietly try to shove one of the HS mags in. Hopefully nothing will happen that would damage/jam the gun. If it fires cleanly, I guess he would have the only CA legal high cap XD mags available?

I think you will find your friends mags will be 10 rounders. Even if they were HS2000 15 rounders they would be marked law enforcement because the gun and the mags were both available post 1994 so there is no way to have acquired them in california legally for us ordinary citizens. As for changes I know the xd9 has a slightly larger extractor claw than the HS2000. When I had my HS I use to get XD parts from springfield for it when things broke. Mark

The difference between the XD9 10rd and 15rd mags is the sides of the mag body has a "divot" running vertically on the sides, and the follower is molded to fit.
                The 10rd XD9 mags are "single-stack" and the 15rd mags are "double-stack".
                The floorplates are the same.

That's why the little XD9 (and I believe 40) Subcompact mag is still 10rd without having to use the mag extension on the shorter grip... that's a double-stack mag.

To toss both 10rd and 15rd mags on the bench and give them a moderately-educated look, it seems that they are the same.

See the groove on the side? The high-cap mag is flat like the Glock mag.
