    1911 magazine question

Hi and thanks in advance for the information. I just made a deal to purchase a Rock Island Armory 1911 GI. I was wondering if the magazines are interchangeable between all 1911's or if they are specific to the manufacturer.

Also, I was wondering who makes good magazines.

    Thanks for the insight,

    Larry

Im assumingn it would take any standard 1911 magazine, most of the guns I've dealt with do. For example I have a springfield 1911 but I use wilson combat ETMs and they work better than the factory ones.

Wilson Combat makes good magazines, but some more knowledgeable folks can probably give you some other brands as well.
The "best" handgun caliber debate rages on, meanwhile I just keep buying low recoil 00 buck.

I agree on the Wilson mags. Shooting Star is also good as is Chip Mc Cormick. Stary away from the true aftermarket mags like Promag for most guns. If you decide you are going to get some 10 rounders, Wilson is the only way to go.

Wilsons are great. I've had good luck with my 8 round Chip McCormicks too.

Im a big fan of these myself. Work as good as Wilson Combat, are cheaper (as much as Chip McCormick) but look better than both.

Wilson 47D 8 round mags are the way to go. Never had a problem with them.

I went with the Mec Gar mags after some research. I guess they make factory mags for some big name companies like sig and colt, or so i have read. Ive got 4 and am going the range tomorrow to try them out. I have one wilson 47D and havent had any issues but I have also run the factory kimber mags with no issues too.

Wilson mags work... as do many other brands.. the ones that come in the gun are the same as the Novak mags which is what I use in my range guns and they work really well...

                          reviving an old one sorry,

I was wondering what other companies you guys recommend, I heard from the guy I bought 2 Novak 8 rounders from that the Wilson Combat and Chip Mccormick both have rather garbage followers? regardless for their 8/10 round magazines.

                          so far I have:

Tripp Cobra and Novak as being great due to their followers etc, then followed by wilson and chip? any other contenders?

There are lots of good magazines........There is nothing wrong with Factory Colt.
