    CCW Choice

If you have the following handguns which 3 would you pick to cover all your CCW needs? Consider summer carry which precludes wearing of jackets/coats. Here is the list:

Sig GSR TTT (5" full size 1911) 45 acp
    Colt 1991 A1 commander 45 acp
    Glock 23
    Glock 27
    S&W 5906
    S&W 6906
    S&W 640 (no dash) 38 spl +p+
    Colt Mustang 380

    Desert Eagle MVII 44 mag
Ruger SRH 454 Casull 7.5" bbl.

If I had to pick one from the list, I'd say the Colt Commander.

Have you looked at the Para Ordnance Warthog? 10 rounds of .45acp in a compact 1911 frame. Way cool.

Glock 27, Colt Mustang and S&W 640 (always have a wheel gun)...I have the Warthog too (good gun).

The Sig, Glock 23 and Colt 1911 ( I have one) are too long, while S&W 5906 & 6906 are too heavy (got the 5906 too).

A three inch Smith and Wesson models: 65 or 66 ride very nicely behind my right hip off duty.Hide very well under a sweater or even a slightly lose t-shirt. I am comfortable with a six shooter and one speed loader and a massive Benchmade knife while off duty. When I feel I want more, Glock 23 with 2 spare mags and an 870 in the trunk.

640 for me in the summer. I like a .38 snub nose for the ease of carry. I use a pocket holster and it works with shorts and jeans.
In the winter I would use one of your Glocks in a holster behind my back.
or, if you think you would be in a bad area or situation, then take em both.

          Thats what I do.

I do have a S&W 66 with 2.5" barrel, but the combat grips makes it bulky. Never bothered getting bantam or compact grips for it, never dared mess with its' beauty. I may just go with the G23 and 27, will make the S&W 640 primary during hot weather. I was waiting on someone to say Desert Eagle 44 mag.

You missed listing the XDSC9 or .40 cal. They both have the 3" barrel. I've carried the 9mm for ccw daily for over 6yrs. I have a Crossbreed Supertuck and it conceals quite nicely, even in the summer. Since the holster is an IWB, I can tuck a shirt in and no one has ever asked what the clips are on my belt.

I used to carry a Model 60, .38cal (1977 model) for backup and off duty, but retired it when I retired. I'd rather have the XD and larger capacity.

I'm not familiar with any of the others, but I did try the Glock subcompacts in .9, .40 and .45 and didn't care for them.

For concealed carry I would chose either of the following:
                    Glock 27
                    S&W 640

This is an interesting list of guns. If you can have 3 on the list, I'd tend to pick a small, a medium and a large, to cover your various dress and environment situations.

For the small, the Colt Mustang .380 is probably the most concealable and might get first choice. It could easily go in a pocket or be a backup gun to a larger one if you were carrying two guns. The S&W 640 is all steel and a little heavy for pocket use, although it works on the belt. If the 640 were an alloy frame 642 I would consider it as the small gun.

For the medium I'd go with the Glock 27. I think it gives you the most power and capacity in a smaller package, and it is lightweight and easily concealed in various belt holsters.

For the large, it depends on your feelings about 1911s vs. Glocks vs. DA/SA alloy frame guns with hammers. The candidates are all good. If you don't have regular capacity magazines, I wouldn't bother with the Glock 23 (14 rounds) or the 9mm S&W 6906 (16 rounds) because it seems a shame to handicap these fine guns with a 10 round magazine. If you like 1911s the Commander is a natural. If you do have regular capacity magazines, I'd go with the S&W 6906 and load it with Federal HST 147 grain ammo.

+ 1 with the added info: I wouldn't recommend anybody carrying a semi auto unless they train and practice with it. If I thought I was going to a bad area or situation I would also have a rifle.

Those would be my choice of what you listed, but a S&W 49/649 might be a better choice than the 640 only 'cause you can get to the hammer.
