    XD Help

Today at the range I was told that my XD Tactical 9mm will never be a tact driver because it's "too loose" and the trigger isn't good enough. Mine is about 500 rounds old. Has anyone out the had any up grading work done? Names and cost would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is probably going to be having one of the following companies put a match barrel and custom trigger job into the gun:

    - Springfield Custom Shop
    - Springer Precision
    - Canyon Creek

If you are interested in accuracy, you probably want to also have adjustable sights added to the gun.

Now, having provided that information, what do you really want from your gun? Are you planning to shoot Bianchi Cup or PPC with it? Because the gun is great for competitions like IDPA or USPSA Production Division with small modifications like a trigger job and better sights.

I had a Powder River Precision trigger kit on mine. Reduced take-up, overtravel, and lightened pull weight, effectively making it into a single action kind of trigger pull. Loved it. Helped with accuracy a lot, but it wouldn't really have helped all that much if I were just a better shooter. The parts for the entire kit cost around $80, if I remember correctly.

My little XD-9sc 3" will outshoot my 4.25" .45acp all day long even with the shorter sight radius. I can consistently hit 4" groups at 25 yards with that thing over and over. Last time I took it out, I almost traded directly for a sig p220 but after shooting it, I just couldn't give it up.

You might want to visit http://xdtalk.com

The last two names Gryff mentioned are listed there and there are more companies who work on the XD. Plus, you can get a lot of info from the forum members.

The only thing I've done with my XDSC9mm is had some TruGlo TFO FO/tritium sights on due to my aging eyes. I don't want to play with the trigger since it is my daily ccw gun.

Did you do the kit install yourself? How difficult to do?

I've found my XD45c to be much more accurate than the XD9 4 or 5". So much that it really shocked me. The G19 runs circles around them both ;-). Seriously though, upgrades to weapons cost a lot of money. If you're looking for a tack driver, there's other options available to you.

I put the Springer Precision kit in myself. It wasn't too bad. For accuracy, a few people I know have gone to a lead 357 bullet. It tightened the groups up considerably. If you slug your barrel, you'll know what bullet to use.

Stop going by others' criticisms about your gun, enjoy it.

I have to agree with Greg on this. Sounds like you didn't know until someone else told you. Loose guns can still be very accurate and tend to not have jamming problems. The HK45 is a relatively loose gun but is crazy accurate. The o ring might help this, though. The XD9 series is the most inaccurate gun I've shot, though, and that's coming from the XD45 trigger so I'm very used to it. Can't explain why.

The XD Series, both the standard series and the "M's", are capable of excellent accuracy and the trigger systems are of a design that allows them to be tuned to near custom 1911 quality.

I don't know much about how the XD trigger works, but my XD45 had the Springfield custom shop "carry package" done and it is not like the Kimber TLE II wich has a 3.5 lb trigger job. the Kimber's trigger breaks very clean and the XD does not. To me, the XD's trigger just continue to travel until it releases the firing pin. I would prefer the 1911 and Glock type trigger system.
