The company has gotten a lot better. Their revolvers have always been good, its their semi-autos that have had issues. I would not think twice about buying another Taurus revo.

My dad has a Taurus PT-911 and it is an excellent pistol for the price. Has been nothing but flawless when I shoot it and it is accurate and has easy take down like the Beretta.

There has been issues with they polymer pistols but that was awhile ago and at has been addressed in their newer models.

IIRC it wasnt even "all" of them....it was thier millinium series I think. It certainly aint thier revolvers nor thier PT series.......

I've only known 1 buddy to have an issue with a Taurus and it was on a used-purchase gun...and Taurus still honored the warrentee and had it back to him with problem fixed a couple new itttttty bitty parts and a new barrel.....all for the cost of shipping one way to them...they picked up the return fee..... Not too shabby IMO.

Didnt they use to make cheap "throw away" kind of pistols? But i have heard there knock offs are pretty good.

Man taurus sucks donkey balls. Plain and simple and I guess you guys are just lucky to witness good ones. I personally have owned two of them and both piecies a **** and yes one was a revolver. It went off of timing after just two shooting sessions. They kicked it around and tightened something up I cant remember what it was on the repair order. Also claimed my problem was reloaded ammunition which was utter bullcrap because I only used factory ammo. It also caused my face to bleed with shards of copper. The first taurus I owned was a pt145. It was alright when it fired. It had firing pin problems and I sent it back twice! Each time they told me I was using reloaded ammunition which again was BS because I used all sorts of ammo trying to figure out if it was an ammo problem. Also, dont get me started on the problems my customers have had with them and the nightmare they have gone through. Like the time a revolver was broken out of the box. Unfortunately he didnt notice until he got home which meant we couldnt exchange it for him. We sent it back twice (funny trend here) before we decided to just give the guy his money back and he bought a smith 629 instead of the tracker. We sent it back the third time again so at least we could sell it as a used handgun. Five weeks later, guess what? same problem but this time with a note that said "replaced mission parts"
Last week I stepped into another local gunshop and shot the **** with them. Somehow the topic of taurus came up and they guy behind the counter told me that his shop was probably not going to carry them anymore. He had customer servie issues with his customers. He told me that recently he sent a taraus revolver back that out of the box was defective(another trend here?). It took tauras five months to send it back only to tell the customer "we cannot repair this handgun, we will replace it at a 'discounted' price."
I consider it a costomer service to talk people out of taurus.

*edit* Brazillians are known to party. If you get one made on friday then the guy was thinking about the weekend so he wasnt paying attention, if it was monday then he had a hang over.

I work part time at a shooting range Taurus's have many problems. The wheel guns brand new out of the box and I'm not talking about one or two but many have the cylinder drag on the forcing cone. Semi's don't want to run lots of different problems. They sell lots of guns some are going to work. We figure there QC dept. is the return line.

                I wouldn't spend my $$ on one.

                Good luck
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

All of their copies are great.

Taurus is known for copies. If it's not a copy of another "good" gun, then taurus doesn't know how to make it. The semi-auto's are great, knock-off of beretta 92/96 and the Kel-Tec knock off (pt111/ptxxx). they have a couple other knock-offs too.
Take your chances with wheel guns, unless it's a DIRECT copy of another manufacturer.

FWIW: the keltec clip-holster fits on the pt111, and the beretta parts/accessories fit on the taurus 92/96, it's not a Coincidence

The Beretta 92 series doesn't have a great reputation for longivity we use them at the range because people wanting to become PD come in to practice. The 92 is a high fail firearm can you say locking block? The Taurus is a cheap copy.

I always hear these horror stories about Taurus pistols.. For the money I think they're good guns; I had a Model 85 (.38 sp snubbie) several years ago -- slick action, very accurate (for a snub), and reliable. It also cost ~$250. Now, the cylinder latch had some play in it and would move when the action cycled, but it didn't affect operation. My only complaint was that the bright stainless finish made the gun look cheap (to me).

But, in the end, I'm a Smith guy, and I sold the Taurus and bought a J-frame when I had the chance. Now it did cost me almost twice as much...so there better not be anything wrong with it

I have a PT92 semi auto Beretta clone, 100% satisfied. No problems at all and I would certainly buy another one.

The problem I think you'll have is with the cartridge and not the gun. The 17 HMR can set back against the recoil sheild of a revolver & cause it to bind. Similar to the way the 22 Remington Jet did for S & W. I don't propose that it happens all the time and a less than clean or over oiled gun may contribute to the problem. I think the 17 HMR is a nice cartridge, but perhaps not in a revolver.

So far as Taurus is concerned, I think their revolvers are fine and have no experience with their semi autos. I worked in a gun store in the 70s. We sold (or tried to anyway) Taurus revolvers. I can state firsthand that Taurus used to make terrible revolvers and that they have improved tremendously.

Interesting....especially since it (Ber 92) outperformed everything around it 'back in the day' when the military trials were underfoot back in what '85 when the military was adopting a new sidearm. And it came in $9.00 per unit cheaper than the Sig~ the only other gun remotely close in performance during those torture trials.

Strange reviews guys! I usually tell peeps to think about what gun(s) they'd be willing to trust thier lives with; for me it has litterally been two different Taurus on that list admist a few others. My PT92 has always outshot and outlasted my Ber 92..... and My Titanium tracker was my carry gun for quite a while with a couple ~K down the pipe without a hiccup and loving every ammo I've tried. i CANT say anything close to that with any of the S&W's either I or my wife has owned......problems galore.... Sold every ***** one of them when S&W went nutty and jumped into bed with Clinton; its only now that I'm re-attempting to try out S&W's again.

I know they used to say that Friday/Monday thinking for cars....guess it just might be true.

Maddog, sorry to hear about your bad experience. At a shop I recently worked at for about 6 months, we sold the heck out of Taurus stuff, notable various flavors of M85's. During my brief tenure there, we didn't have any come back with problems.
