Nighthawk or Springfield A1 customized, 1911 help please...

I've got through a few kimber's & one became reliable after about 500-700rds the other I gave up after 200 due to ammo not being so cheap for .45.

I want to get another 1911, I really really do but I don't want to waste a case of ammo breaking it in & the frusteration that goes with it, moving up to the high end models such as Wilson or Nighthawk or I hear great things about the Springfield Operator TRP? From what I know I would choose Nighthawk over Wilson & I have an opportunity to pick up at GRP w/ rail for around $1600 with only 100rds fired so i'm considering it. I cannot see myself spending over 2k on a 1911 so please advise, you guys know best and any 1911 fans that own a Nighthawk especially or TRP operator please tell me your story. I also see people putting a few hundred into a 1911 A1 , even saw some nice stainless ones recently with upgrades and wonder if I could have a sweet 1911 for under or around 1k with this setup but how would it compare to a Nighthawk, Wilson or TRP!

    Thanks so much guys!

If both guns are in the same condition, there's no doubt I will be picking up that Nighthawk instead. That is a great deal @ $1600 for a like new NH.

I have had no reliability issues with my SA TRP. I did send it back to get the ambi safety replaced by a non-ambi safety. The right side of the safety was a little finicky about how it worked so i asked them to swap it out with a regular one. Free shipping both ways and had my pistol back within 2 weeks. I want to say it was closer to a week but i will err on the 2 week side.

I talked to springfield and the lady (Penny I believe) informed me that the TRP (non-rail armory coat) changed grips so DOJ has not approved the new configuration. I just had to laugh as it is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Actually, someone else told me that DOJ was denying guns some years ago due to the fact that the manufacturers submitted a firearms with factory sights and then tried to sell the same firearms with night sights.

I own a TRP and have also shot the nighthawk GRP. They are both great guns but the nighthawk has a better fit and a slightly better trigger. I don't think you can go wrong with either gun.

Have you thought of a 1911 in 9mm? Cheaper on the wallet.

Otherwise I'd just pony up the cash now. Upgrading will cost more overall.

I really liked the MC Operator and its a couple hundred cheaper than the TRP Operator. The Wilson CQB I held was very nice, but seems overpriced to me. Check out Dan Wessons and Les Baer too. They make great 1911s for the price.

For 2k you can get a hell of a 1911. Good luck.

              Nighthawk 100% at that price.

People say great things about many 1911s. You can't compare the TRP to semi-customs no matter how happy the owners are. I was really happy driving a Civic until I got the V6 accord, then I drove the 330i. damn....

For my money, it would be the Nighthawk.

I have a GRP and love it more than my other Talon. It's a great gun and for $1600 it's a steal.

Even though I'm a Springfield owner and love their guns...The Nighthawk is a steal and if you don't buy it, I will.
