Glock - 9mm - feedback

Dear Calgunners,

I'm deciding which handgun to purchase for my wife. Or better question, which handguns to try out with her at the range. I'm a 45 type of guy and I love my Kimbers, and my one Glock 36. But that caliber was a bit too much for her. She also tried out my 380 Walther PPK, and that was nice, but she wanted a bit more oomph, and she liked how the Glock 36 felt. I know, this sounds like a Goldilocks and 3 Bears story.

So I'm betting on a Glock 9mm. But which one...G19 or G26? Do any of you own these pistols, and has your female significant other fired them? What were their impressions?

She's 5'6 and I'm 6'3. She has very small hands vs mine which are large. Ideally (selfishly) we'd find a pistol that I could play with too, but that is not a deal breaker. So, followup question, if she decides on the G26, have any of you fired that weapon and what is your impression?

I have a g19 and like it very much, My wife like the feeling of the g19 too, she held the g26 and say it was to small. The g19 is manily for her but I use it more since i go to the range more.

Let her test both gun and she can pick from there.

I'd suggest 19 as it is slightly bigger and generally is considered to be a good all-purpose handgun. I have a 23(.40S&W) and it is a good gun. If she doesn't mind, she can also try 17 and maybe 34 and see which she likes better.

try finding a range that rents handguns. rent the g19, g26, and might as well try the g17. have her try them out and decide for herself. between those 3, it just comes down to personal preference.

I've only shot the g19, but with the 26 you can get those handle extension, which I think is pretty sweet.

Have you considered a Kahr PM9? Nice smooth double action only trigger. Also, something to consider is whether or not she's able to rack the slide reliably on whatever pistol you're considering. Some women have difficulty with it and benefit from a pistol with an exposed hammer. When they cock the hammer first there is less spring pressure to overcome when racking the slide. I'm wanting another Glock myself but I'm holding off until next year. They may have some modified grip frames that are more ergonomic.

my gf shot my g19 and liked it. She thought it was the perfect size and weight.

My mom (5'6") and sister (5'1") have both shot the 19 and were quite happy with it. Was their favorite DAO gun at the range. They felt like the smaller g26 was harder to control / had higher perceived recoil.

You might consider the XD or M&P in 9mm instead. Both offer a more-ergonomic grip that is better for a woman's hand size.

I assume she will not be carrying it and if I am correct the grip diameter is the same on the 17 and 19. I would get the full size 17 because of the longer sight radius and felt recoil will be less than the 19 or 26.

She needs to try them. We can't guess at what will work best for her. Both are common "chick guns", a lot of ladies have them. (no offense to any guys that own them).

FYI - a G19 is most likely my next purchase for ease of carry

for your wife I think the Glock 19 would be the best compromise. .5" longer than the 26. Longer grip. easier to shoot.

IMHO the 9mm Glocks are the best 9mm money can buy. They are Reliable, Accurate and Practically Indestructible.

While I'm a huge XD45 fan, in 9mm the Glock is IMO superior to the XD. The Glock has less muzzle flip.

Take her to the range, let her shoot a bunch and decide for herself. Worst thing to do is ask a bunch of guys what a woman would like.
