I have small hands. For me a S&W M&P or a modified 1911 work best for general purpose pistols. For a small concealment pistol for small hands it's hard to beat a Kahr MK9.

The M&P comes with interchangeable backstraps which allows you to fit it to any size hands. I modify my 1911s by swapping in thin grips (40% thinner) and a short trigger.

My hands are not that big. I like 1911's and Sig P220, P226's.

if you looking for a full size, i recommend a 1911, cz or hk p2000.

Cz p-01 is pretty compact with really well contoured grips that it a pleasure to hold. But of course single stacks are always great (ie 1911).

I was looking at a couple S&W M&P's yesterday (9mm and .45) and I thought the grips were too small. Overall, I really liked the gun and could easily recommend it to someone with smaller hands, but it just didn't feel right to me.

How about a model 60 LadySmith revolver? It will be excellent with 38 spl load and when she's ready for the more powerful stuff such as +p or 357 mag it wouldn't be handicapped.

1911 with slim grips and a short trigger.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

Skimming this thread, I noticed nobody suggested the Springfield XD. What's up with that? It's got a pretty slim grip (the rental range always seems to recommend it for females though)

I would agree. Even though it uses a double stacked magazine, it has really good ergonomics for smaller hands.

                        Revolvers: S&W Ladysmith, Taurus 85, Ruger SP101, Without going to a mousegun, in a semi-auto I'd try a Baby Eagle or CZ75.

I'll throw a vote in for any of the Xd's. My wife is REALLY little, and she loves all 3 of my xd's even the 45. Her "carry" gun is a 4" Charter Arms Bulldog in .44spl, and ALL the Charter's have really good ergo for women and small hands. Glocks don't work for short fingers like mine...Which is fine by me...LOL...The FNP series is also excellent as is the EAA stuff on a budget. The .327 guns from Ruger, or Charter are great as well.

As in my post before the FNP9 is a nice choice but I did see some say the M&P9 which is also a great pistol. I wanted to add to the list and since we are talking small hands I will put in the mix the Sig P6 and P225, both are single stack and have a thin grip that seems to fit smallish hands. I have all four of the guns I have listed except my M&P is a 45. All of these are nice as I don't have large hands but not small either. The FNP and M&P both have the swappable back straps and the Sigs are just thinner because of the single stack mag.. The Sigs can be found used for a decent price and the FNP is $499.00 at BPS.

Good luck and let us know what you end up with,

Thank you to everyone that posted. I'll be looking for these guns when I go to a rental range to try them out.

                                Late to the thread but...

I have small hands and I found most 1911's to be very comfortable as well as the FNP40.

If you don't have strong hands I would stay away from revolvers with shortened grips. My wife had a S&W Ladysmith in .38 that felt somewhat comfortable in her hands, but she couldn't deal with the trigger pull or recoil.
