Red Dot Sight on a pistol

I first experimented with a slide-mounted red dot sight back in 1995 i think, it was a sight similar to a Dr. Optic with a custom mount made by my favorite gun-smith Larry Mears and mounted on a FN GP Competition.

While it was fun for a range gun I personally would not use one on a carry pistol or a HD pistol. My sight wasn't parallax free and you needed to be very consistant with your stance and head position. The mounting screws are not that stout nor is the aluminum frame protecting the glass lens plus batteries can fail and electrical contacts can short.

I'd rather use a laser if I wanted to supplement my tritium night sights.

For fun and to help my aging eyes at longer distances (ie -50+ yards), I'm preparing my Sigs with rails for a Burris FF2. Got a rail that lets me retain my ironsights (Meps).
