my first time with a 1911...

and i loved it. it was only a RIA 1911 but i had a hard time deciding between the cz75 and RIA 1911 until i got to shoot both side by side, and now know where my money will be spent and i know why people love 1911s. i have a really bad feeling this can be expensive.

The reason why you're having a hard time is because RIA 1911s kinda stink in my opinion. Shoot a better model 1911, and you'll definitly like the feel. There is no way that a single action trigger pull should feel even remotely close to a SA/DA. The SA should always be far more crisp, and consistent. I have both a kimber 1911, a springfield operator 1911, and a Cz 75 sp-01.

That being said I like the trigger pulls on both 1911s far better than the Single action pull or double action pull on the CZ. Now the reason why I have the CZ is the reliability wise, and because its my USPSA gun. But the CZ is the closest thing you're gonna get to the 1911. So you have to see whether you're picking it because you're plinking, or you want it to be more reliable? Also think about ammo cost... u can get a 1911 in 9mm which is what my kimber is.

well I never shot the 1911 or cz75 but wanted metal alloy gun. from just guessing I thought I wouldn't like the 1911 but I was wrong. I wouldn't mind the 1911 in 9mm but I have a budget and found a killer deal on a RIA.

How killer? A GI runs about 400ish these days I think, with the Tactical going about 500.

The 1911 is awesome.. I am hooked on them.. Now i have a total of 4 built, 2 in the works and 3 frames i haven't touched yet... they are truely a beautiful Firearm.. one is with me 99% of the places i go.... Out of the box, i think I would reccomend My Kimber LAPD Swat, Its also known as the Kimber TLE II... No Rail...

Grats your hooked, find what you like and what you can afford. There will always be time later down the road for better. Some brands you pay for a name some you get alot for the money. Also 1911s can be finicky as far as ammo goes while breaking in. I own a Smith and Wesson 1911 and a Para LTC alloy 1911. Both guns are great, the Smith was my first and I thought there was something wrong with it because it would half feed on occasion. Once it was broken in I can put any kind of ammo through it with no issues. I am very happy with both guns. Enjoy.

                    I own a RIA Tactical.

I've shot my buddies $1200 Kimber. For the two of us there is very little difference shooting wise (as in I can't shoot the Kimber any better than the Rock nor can he). Down the road maybe the Kimber will hold up better but I don't shoot thousands of rounds a year. it will take me 10+ years to get 10k rounds through a weapon.

What I do have is an accurate, affordable 1911 that is going to ruin some BG's day should they decide to invade my domicile. And I spent about half what I would have on a Kimber. To each his own. I am more than willing to trust my RIA.

I also was/am on budget constraints and had to choose on one handgun and decided on Springfield 1911. A great gun. It feels great, very accurate, and looks great. I looked at some RIA 1911s but decided to spend a little more and get the gun I want. If a RIA is the one you want then go for it but if you're just settling on it due to price, I would just wait the extra whatever months to save up for the one you want.

i checked out an RIA first too... it was less than 500 bucks... but between all of the 1911s i was checkin out the springfield felt nice.. plus it already had the skeleton trigger, night sights, front and rear grooves on slide, and just felt real nice... but hell 4 something for a 1911.... that was pretty sweet too haha

                              I'm also a fan of the 1911.

While picking up my new shotgun on Friday, one of the guys working the counter said he had a new shipment of Colt Series 70s in. I haven't followed the Colt news too closely and was surprised and curious that they brought back the Series 70. Supposedly, the trigger block issue has been resolved.

I could care less -- I was too busy handling the gun out of the box, racking it, and squeezing the trigger. My husband tried really hard not to roll his eyes because I was squealing like a girl and admiring the slide -- nothing like a pristine finish in blue to appeal to the old school in me.

Not a bad price at $900 because it's only money -- and I'm telling my bosses to give me a mega raise at my next evaluation - lol
