    glock17 vs. ruger SR9??

ok ive been checking out both the glock 17 and the SR9. the SR9 seems to be a great gun and we all know you can count on a glock so my question is do you think the SR9 is good competetion for the g17? and would you buy a SR9 over a g17?...

personally im about 80% sure im getting the SR9 over the glock just because it looks one hell of a lot better and seems to be just as good as a glock

I have shot one and loved it. I shot that and a glock 17 the same day and for me, the SR9 was more accurate.

I've never shot the SR9 but as far as grip feel, they're the polar opposites.
I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

If price is not an issue, definately the glock 17. There is no comparision.

Is this a serious question? There is NO comparison, I have heard good things about the SR9's but this is a glock were talking about. I shot a ground squirrel today with my glock 17 and a federal hydrashock . Get the ruger if it fits you better and don't forget to report back id like to hear a calgunners review, Like I said I have heard good things and they don't look to bad.

Things I like about the SR9:
                        adjustable rear sights for elevation
                        reversible backstrap (straight or rounded)
You don't have to pull the trigger to field strip it. (But you do have to flick a little switch above the magazine.)
magazine disconnect safety (Some people hate it. I think it's nice.)
The grip feels thinner than a Glock 17.
The slide comes in stainless steel or black.

                        Things I don't like about the SR9:
Dry-firing without the magazine in place may damage it.
the pignose, just like the Glock (The gap between the slide and the frame that you can shine a light through.)
that little switch you have to flick if you don't want to pull the trigger to field strip it (It's in an awkward place and it prevents the magazine from seating in the gun if you forget to move it back.)
1911-style safety (cocked & locked) (I'm more used to the Beretta style decocker-safety.)

The Glock is good too. Aftermarket parts are very common and armorers are everywhere if you want to customize it.

                          I have owned the lineage of Rugers (P85, P89, P95, P90, P944, P93, P91, SR9 etc..)
                          I have owned the lineage of Glocks (G34, G19, G17, G21, G22, G23)

I have now officially sold ALL of my glocks and will not own anymore unless they begin to address the issues that exist with them.

A good example of what I speak of:
So, I buy a G19. I am a reloader and shoot lead bullets that I make myself. The gun also doesn't fit my hand well (points high) and I want a safety since I want to carry it IWB with a loaded chamber (read you instruction manual Glock guys, it specifically states that you shouldn't carry the gun with a round chambered).

So this means that I have to do the following:
                          1) Install an aftermarket barrel with broach cut rifling AND a fully supported barrel ($200 installed and fitted)
                          2) Send it out for a backstrap reduction ($150+)
                          3) Send it out to have a 1911 type safety installed ($150+)

So now I've spent $500 on top of the $500 I already spent on the gun to get it to be what I want.

So I pickup a Ruger SR9 after all that work. The SR9 CAME with the safety, barrel AND backstrap I wanted. Oh yeah, its a ruger so it will last forever and work like swiss watch as long as I use Ruger mags. Did I mention it cost me $450 OTD? The magazine safety is removeable and does nto void the waranty if taken out.

As much as I WANTED to like the Glocks, I think I can safely say that I have tried them (as I have owned 6 different models, carried them as a LEO and as a civilian) I will not be going back.

I have several friends who have shot the Ruger and have changed from Glock to the SR9. My only disapointment thus far has been that they don't make it in a 45ACP (yet) and that I only own 1. Typically when I go shooting, my friends all end up shoving me out of the way to shoot it.

For those that are interested, I have been shooting 115grn lead ball backed with 3.5 grains of red dot over federal pistol primers in mixed brass. After 2000 rounds last week alone, I have had ZERO issues.

You make your own choice based upon your own personal taste. Some like Chevy's, some like Ford's. I'm sticking with Ruger.

I love Ruger Single action wheelguns, but I'd pass on their self loaders - go with the Glock.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.
