    First Handgun - Glock 34

    I purchased a Glock 34 after a good amount of trials with different guns and calibers. The G34 gave me the best feel, ergonomics, and groupings.

    I do have a quick question, Is there anything I should watch out for or do to a new glock 34? Besides shoot it!!

    ******UPDATE*****
    Finally got my stuff in.

    BTW, the Streamlight is not scratched, just dust and pet hair!!

      Excellent choice on a first handgun. I love mine and would never get rid of it. The only thing I suggest is that you change the sights. Stock Glock sights are absolutely horrible. There are so many options out there so you'll definitely be able to find something you like. Here's a little soft-core gun porn for the thread...

          Congrats on the new pistol!

          I'd say just shoot it a bunch to get comfortable with it and find a local club to shoot some matches. These are great guns for getting into many types of competitive shooting, USPSA, IDPA, etc.

            Yeah, DO NOT use reloads in your Glock. Also DO NOT use any "plated," or "Coated" ammunition. Use only factory new "Jacketed" ammunition. Otherwise you might end up with one of these;

                You joined last month (36 posts ago) and this is what you post? Ever heard of a 9mm Glock KB'ing? No, didn't think so. You CAN use reloads in your Glock if you wish. Just don't double charge your loads and you'll be good.

                The rear sight is the real problem for me, but you're moving in the right direction!

                        The only changes I made to my Glock 34 were night sights (front and rear AmeriGlo), standard slide stop lever, and standard magazine release. The extended controls don't do anything for me, except to serve as unnecessary protrusions on an otherwise protrusion-free pistol.

                          The only real change, is to take some self defense handgun classes using your G34...plus join Glock Sport Shooting Foundation and compete.

                          I have a G35 and love it. Super accurate and fun to shoot.

                            Only problem with a G34 is that you will have to compete in the Pro Class if I remember correctly.

                            I just got my G34 a few weeks ago and have not had time to test it out yet. I am going to try it out tonight along side of my G17

                            I have only used reloads in my G17 so no worries there. Just watch for double charges, because we all know every firearm will KB! if that happens

                            I like the mods you have done to your G34 as well, I got the Glock NS on mine from Glock.

                              What does post count and join date have to do with anything? Just because I only found this forum a month ago, and prefer to not spam them up with useless posts doesn't mean I know nothing. On the other hand if I had joined, say, April of 2007 and had a post count somewhere in the 2500 range wouldn't mean I knew everything either. There's been at least one confirmed case of a KB in a 9x19 Glock. So it can happen. You still wear your seatbelt even if you don't expect to get in an accident right? Well, I was just cautioning him.

                              Every Firearm can potentially KB. However, the Glock is known to do it a disproportionate amount. And when it does it usually shatters, or shoots the trigger assembly into your finger. Steel guns tend to contain the force of the KB better. I agree with him;
