    Trigger Job - XD-.45

I am considering a trigger job on my XD .45. It is my favorite handgun, but that huge space in the front of the trigger pull isn't the greatest, I usually don't let the trigger out all the way but I tend to slap the trigger a bit after a few shots. Would just like to crisp it up and maybe reduce the pull a hair if it wont encumber firing.

I was thinking of having it done at Bolsa Gunsmithing... they just did some other work for me and did a great job, cheap, and really fast.

Every time I have asked for advice on this site I have ended up following it and being really glad I did, so I would appreciate you thoughts on this.

    thanks,
    adam

I bought the Springer trigger kit and installed it myself. The kit is such a big improvement, I don't think anyone would shoot a stock XD after they tried a gun with the kit installed.

I think I bought my kit from Dave Lawver (Dave's Metal Works) last year. I had a problem with the installation and he walked me through it over the phone. Dave is in Covina, so he's somewhat close to you. I'd give him a call (626-859-0299).

I believe Scott Springer (Springer Precision) installs his kits for $175 + shipping (he gives a 20% FedEx discount on his website). It takes about 1 week. FYI, he's making some awesome open and limited guns based on the XD's.

I've also had work done by Rich. I wouldn't hesitate sending a gun to him for work. I love the way he does business.

I'll confuse you more. Powder River Precision's Match Target kit.

Fantastic product and company. Got a problem? Call them up and you'll get the owner.

One more to add to the fray....

I've had two XD45's done by Jeremy at Springfield Custom. Not the cheapest route, but definite continues the lifetime Springfield service.

The "after" is great....not 1911 great, but not too far off.

There is basically no takeup any more. The only movement you feel is the "USA" trigger safety moving back to the blade. To fire, there is only about 1/8" of movement and about the same overtravel. Not perfect, but MUCH better than stock....

Good luck with your decision. Let us know what you end up doing...

A trigger job doesn't void the lifetime warranty. They will not, however, warrant the trigger job.

Do the trigger jobs from Springfield or Powder Valley shorten the reset? That's the thing that I liked best about Scott and Rich's kits.

I recommend doing it yourself using the Springer or Powder River kits. I did my own XD45 home defense gun. My competition guns (triggers done by Canyon Creek) are superior, but the 45's trigger is a world better than the factory trigger.

This will help (and it's cheap):

I'd ask this question over at XDtalk as well, you'll get a lot of replies from a lot of rabid XD enthusiasts.

Understood....I suppose I am paranoid...this way the whole kit and kabootle is factory. At least on those two.

I've got a Springer kit I picked up from the classifieds. I just haven't gotten around to installing it on one of the others yet to try....

With Springfield Custom, you have to go to the "Competition" trigger to get shorter takeup/overtravel/reset, but the short answer, "yes". I opted for the "Competition trigger job", but just specified a 4-1/2lb trigger.

The total movement of the trigger full forward to full rear is less than 1/4" now, whether first round or follow-up. Reset is definitely significantly shorter...

I have both PRP kit and a Springer trigger job. The PRP kit is my .45. I had to replace it back with the stock springs since it is my home defense gun and the 3# to 4# is too light for that purpose. The Springer kit is in my 9mm Tactical I did the "Competition" trigger job. My groups tightened up and I was more consistent with my placement of shots.

I have heard great things about daves metal works. He is doing a trigger job on my xd 40 service right now. I hope its all I expect it to be. I did shoot someone elses gun that he worked on, and I thought there was a big improvement over stock.

Thanks for the responses guys... I think I am going to go with a gunsmith for this trigger job... at least I will have one that works right so I will know if I screw up the next one :-).

It seems like a resounding yes on getting a trigger job... thanks for the recommendations on gunsmiths. Has anyone used Bolsa Gunsmiths of SoCal? (So far have had great experiences with them on long guns) And a noob question, no offense... is a trigger job on an XD gonna be that different from one smith to the next? (they just seem like a fairly common job and if I can do it at home surely the guy at the Bolsa is way smarter). If there is a difference would just like to know I don't mind shipping to the best for this if it is worth it.

                              thanks again!
