In my HD weapon, the first two in the magazine are Glasers, the rest are Gold Dots.

The hollow point bullets are designed to expand upon entering soft tissue. Many times, the nose cavity is plugged up by clothing or other intervening objects. The bullet then becomes a FMJ like projectile. I have seen plenty of those bullets from the frome scene or autopsies.

Interesting... My roommate keeps his .38 special loaded with Bird Shot because he thinks it will deter any advancement that a invader might make. I've debated on the wisdom of loading my .357 with 2 rounds of bird and then 4 rounds of regular SJSP.

Yes it can and almost certainly will, even a .22LR can easily.

If you are using your 9mm for home defense, just try not to miss if you live next door to me please

I would always assume that whatever you are using will over penetrate. Like others have said, use frangible rounds if you are really worried about missing and accidentally killing someone else. Otherwise, use a shotgun and less-than-lethal rounds. Its better than nothing.

There is nothing that will work for home defense that won't penetrate sheetrock as shown in boxotruth.com.

I had a friend that used to keep the first round in the cylinder birdshot and the rest JHP. He lived in the woods and had a real cougar issue. He didn't want to kill any cougars if he didn't have to so his theory was whether it was a two or four legged critter if he shot it once with a shotshell the critter would think twice about advancing. I never agreed with him but that was his theory. When if the shot didn't have the desired effect he could empty the cylinder of it's JHPs.

Having the entire cylinder full of shotshells, however, is asinine. I don't really see the point.

Me, it's Federal Hydrashok in my XD45 Tactical, Winchest 230 gr. round nose in my Kimber .45 (Kimber manual states JHPs can be unreliable... whatever, I think the round nose will do) and Winchester Supreme Elite in my G19.

The reason for the Glaser and other Frangible ammo is suggested for interior defense is your family. You shoot the bad guy in the hallway, bullet goes thru him, thru the adjacent wall into you kids bedroom and into your kid. Not good.

Yeah glaser or frangibles sound like the all around best option but they arent.
Any respectable round is going to go through many walls as has been said many times. According to the test that was done even the frangibles will pass through many walls i believe it was about as many walls as the buckshot.
