44 special, because its not a 45-colt chambered revolver.

I found the S&W .460 chambered revolvers shoot the .460, 454 casull, and the 45-colt.

Unfortunately they no longer sell the 'non-ported' barrel ends. The ends of the barrels have an interchangeable tip so you could install different types of ported barrel ends.

I emailed S&W, they said they discontinued the non-ported inserts.

      Anyone know anyone selling a new old-stock S&W non-ported .460 barrel end.....?

I'm not sure that would be a suitable duty weapon. It's huge - weighs 63oz empty. 4 pounds! It's also a 5 shot. I'm not sure if you'll be able to find speedloaders for it.

Why not just get a .45acp 625? Probably quite a bit easier to find used. I have a 625 Model of 1989 5" and its one of my favorite revolvers. This is the type/caliber Jerry Miculek used to set his record. Speedloading with full moon clips works very well.

This picture is of a very early version, most have a patridge front sight, which I prefer and have them serrated.

            Nice wheelgun right there.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

Although exempt, I can't find anyone out-of-state willing to deal with CA.

This is the latest revolver I wanted, and here is the important part of the email response I received.

"I had a previous problem with a sale to CA. and won't do it again. Sorry, but you need better government. "

              Bummer.....
