    does this revolver exist..?

I want to get a Smith and Wesson 629 model revolver chambered in 45 colt.

5" barrel, finish doesn't matter to me.

Looking at at smith wesson's website, that model is offered in several different chambers, including 45colt, but in the tech specs section only 44mag/spc.

I was not able to find anything except 44 mag searching the entire interweb.

    From smiths website:
    over view of gun...

Smith & Wesson's large frame revolvers are the first choice for handgun hunters and competitive shooters. These stainless steel revolvers are available in a variety of chamberings - .41 Magnum, .44 Magnum, .45 Colt, and .45 ACP - as well as several barrel lengths, depending upon your need. Among the large frames is the Model 625, Jerry Miculek's choice when setting his record of shooting twelve rounds, two 6 round loads with a reload in between, in under three seconds.

    technical specs:

    SKU: 163636
    Model: 629 Classic
    Caliber: .44MAG/.44SP
    Capacity: 6 Rounds
    Barrel Length: 5"
    Front Sight: Red Ramp
    Rear Sight: Adjustable
    Grip: Rubber Grips
    Frame: Large
    Finish: Satin Stainless
    Overall Length: 10 1/2"
    Material: Stainless Steel
    Weight Empty: 45.5 oz.

Give their customer service a call, they should be able to tell you.

If they do indeed make it, you will probably have to have your local S&W dealer special order it for you.

It also isn't on the california list so ordering one will a problem. That's unless you are law enforcement or you have a parent or child outside the state to get it for you. Mark

        You are looking for a model 25. Here's a 6 1/2 incher:

Note that 25's also come in 45acp.

        The roster lists:

        625-9 / Stainless Steel Revolver 4" .45 Colt 3/21/2010
        25-13 / Steel Revolver 4" .45 Colt 5/20/2010
        25-15 (Blue) / Steel Revolver 6.5" .45 Colt 10/22/2009

        HTH,

          I'm exempt, no worries there.

I found a 25-7 and 625-7 that might work too.

629's are .44 Magnum, 625 are .45 Colt or ACP, depending on configuration.

Your going to have to go custom in any case, because they haven't made a full lug 5" .45 to the best of my knowledge.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

I think back in the 90's S&W made the "Classic" series revolvers. The M29/629, M25/625 with 5" barrels.

Keep in mind the M25/625 in 45Colt is not as strong as the M29/629 (thinner cylinder walls) and cannot tolerate Ruger Blackhawk/Redhawk loads.
              Luck favors the prepared.

Yes, they did. I bought the one below about 1998, in .44 magnum. I think the original poster should consider settling for this gun in .44 magnum rather than .45 Colt. The ballistics can be very similar, depending on the load and bullet you pick.

I'm looking for this gun for work purposes so it needs to be 45-colt, magnum rounds are not allowed, except .22 magnum.
Although I don't intend to use this revolver for primary duty use, I would like to have it to shoot at the range, special events, ect....
that being said I need a 45 colt-chambered, Smith & Wesson revolver, with a barrel length of 4" to 6".
I just like the aesthetics of the 5" barrel with full lug. I'd like to not order a custom gun costing $1000.00+ dollars. Used would be better obviously...

I don't love the engraving of the gunbroker auction revolver posted, but that is exactly what I'm looking for. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=137067409

I tried to sent the auction seller a message to see if the gun was available/ would bother with the hassel to send to California. gunbroker won't let me send him a message after the auction ended.

Does anyone know how I can circumvent this..???

A 629 by definition is a 44 mag, 625's were made in 45LC and 45ACP. I think that Lew Horton has ordered runs of them in various barrel lengths. I remember seeing one in 2 3/4" with a round butt one time. I owned and shot a M1955 (45 acp) for a couple of decades. Probably the best S&W I have ever seen for fit and finish but they were hand assembled for target use.

Example of what you are looking for...

I ran a search on Gunbroker for completed auctions of model 625s in .45 Colt caliber and this popped up:

Completed Gunbroker auction on 625 Classic in .45 Colt

It has the 5 inch barrel and sold for $805 about two weeks ago. So they do exist, but they are not common. And getting one from elsewhere into CA is often a problem.

Sounds like your an LE so it wont be a problem getting one into CA, sometimes a problem getting a seller to send it to your FFL in CA though, morons... They did make them in 5 inch full lug barrels and even older model 25's in blue with 5 inch barrels. They are all a little hard to find in this barrel length but I passed on one last year in a 5 inch and a 6 inch both here in the state already and both alot cheaper than the $805 auction gun. Keep doing searches on the net and you will find one, also try Gunsamerica.com

Here is a not so hard to find gun, especially if you dont want the heavy barrel. They are kind of rare and sometimes hard to find but not really collectible, found several below for sale. I would try and get it for less than the seller is asking.

Here are couple six inch versions....Top is blue and bottom is nickle.

Another model of 1989 5 inch with a high price.

Another model of 1989 5 inch with laser grips and it will sell at high bid, I guess there not as rare as I thought:~)

                            1989 5 inch set price...

I think the model of 1989 is your best bet if you have to have a 5 inch barrel. Lots of 6 inch barrel guns for sale and also a few 4 inch guns out there for sale too. If you really want the heavy full lug barrel you can find one but I couldnt find any for sale on these two sites right now....let us know what you end up with.
