I always wanted one of those High dollar 1911 Auto's. Well, I found myself single and with $4,000 in my checking account. Sportsmans Wherehouse had them on sale here in Jax Florida for$669.00. I ran right down there and bought one. Three days later I took it to the range and fell in love with it. Good buy I must say. Before the range trip I took it apart to grease the rails and the thing was so tight I had trouble getting it back together again. Love it

When someone says "high dollar 1911", Kimber is not what comes to mind.

Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, and others that are high dollar do.

FYI only,
A Kimber "LW" aka lightweight, would have an aluminum alloy frame, not steel.

I have two kimbers. A standard run of the mill custom II i got in 2007 and a Desert Warrior II i got durring that whole single shot exemption thing all the gun shops were doing a few years ago. Both run fine til about the 500 round mark, and i do a quick cleaning of the chamber and they run fine again for another 500 rounds.

I don't consider them high end. Lots of other 1911s that are really nice for half the cost. I honestly think Tisas 1911s run better and are a much better value at only $400 ish bucks. Lots of cool models they offer and with the money saved you can buy ammo or some upgrades/accesories

I have heard many people knock on kimbers but I love mine. Not a high dollar pistol but I think for a $1,000 range 1911 they are a great buy. After handing a supergrade you can see where they can be improved on, and those are beautiful guns but they re not in everyones budget.

OP, I might have done the same thing in your situation. A Kimber probably isn?t the first 1911 I?d look at but I do have one in 9mm and another in 10mm, just because they were easy to find here in CA. Zero issues with either so I?m happy.

Kimber does seem to garner alot of hate on most gun boards. As they have produced so many I am sure there have been lemons but I am curious how much of the hate is first person experience versus what people have read/heard. I have a kimber team match 2 and a kimber custom 2 9mm and they are both fantastic guns. The team match may be the most accurate pistol I own, congratulations on the new 1911 op!

I have three older Kimber models, all are 45ACP.
One is a lightweight officer-sized designed for carrying. Although I do not use it very often, it has proven reliable.
The other two are SIS models, one being a commander-sized, and the other government-sized. They were initially intended for the Special Investigations Section of the Los Angeles Police Department, a highly effective unit that certain politicians such as Maxine Waters and others had issue with.
IMO, if a politician does not want a particular item to be owned by the citizenry, I consider it a mandate that I own such item if it is within my interests.
Sorry for the rant, but that describes my experience with Kimber 1911s.

Post 13, et al,

I'm still keeping my SIS Custom from 2008 (5" .45ACP), which I often carry.
I used to also have a TLE II Custom and a Warrior, but reduced my 1911 numbers.
I do still have a total of four 1911s; three or non-Kimber-brands.

I've had my problems with my Kimbers and KimberAmerica.
