Does anyone here have one? If so, how do you like it? I'm looking at the 4.25" barrel one. Thanks!

Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

Not I but most of the reviews I’ve seen so far are not very good.
The one that seems to be getting the better reviews is Kimbers DS9.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you. -
Op are you roster exempt? If so the stealth arms platypus is much much better
I am not a 2011 guy (had 2 stacattos, sold both) but lots of my friends own multiple different brands some prodigy issues across 7 or 8 samples:
1) oem mags don't run many peope use stacatto, atlas or.mbt mags
2) oem recoil spring is unreliability, fixed via aftermarket
3) extractor won't pass 10-8 performance extractor test
4) guns have tight chambers and fte issues
5) optic plate is expensive (stealth arms costs 50 for an optic cut)Last edited by static2126; 08-23-2023, 11:34 PM.Comment

I have no experience with it.
A couple of friends in CO bought them for range/competition use.
After two months of dealing with reliability issues (FTF and FTE stoppages), they sold them as soon as they got them back from Springfield Armory (sent in to fix issues, they were told nothing wrong with the pistols) and they both bought Stealth Arms Platypus pistols as replacements for it (they told me the Platypus has been more accurate and reliable than the Prodigy).Last edited by Quiet; 08-23-2023, 6:56 PM.sigpic

How do they like the Platypus? Any commentary other than comparatively improved accuracy and reliability? I'm wondering if a Platypus can play with the big boys like Atlas, Staccato, or Masterpiece Arms considering the huge price difference.I have no experience with it.

They both have Staccatos and have no experience with Atlas or Masterpiece Arms.
One friend, likes it more than his Staccato and his Les Baer customized Para-Ordnance and he just order another Platypus (commander sized) for conceal carry.
^In general, he thinks Staccato is over hyped, overpriced, and regrets getting one.
~He also thinks the Armscor Tac Ultra FS HC is the better than the Springfield Armory Prodigy.
The other friend, likes his Staccato more than it.
^He thinks the Staccato is a better competition gun and the Platypus is more suited as a carry gun.Last edited by Quiet; 08-23-2023, 8:46 PM.sigpic

Thanks for the info guys. I'm glad I didn't "pull the trigger" on one. It was going to be on impulse and I would probably regret it $1259 later.Comment

I can see the aluminum frame being good for carry. Supposedly Stealth Arms will be coming out with a steel frame version soon."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

From what I've read a EGW ignition kit, extractor, and mags cure most of the prodigys woes. The problem with that is if you send it out to someone to have it worked on you've spent the amount similar to the amount of a higher end 2011.

I have had 2 stacattos C2 and P. Both have been sold and I have a platypus on order (after shooting a few owned by friends, this will eventually get sold too as it is only to break up monotony of shooting a p365)
Shooting wise unless you are in the top 1% of shooters they will shoot the same on a timer (stacatro vs platypus vs atlas)
Platypus has better trigger and optic mount vs stacatto. Better optic mount vs all.
Reliability has been same
Personally shoot a p365xl macro (10 to 12k rounds a year) and a lcr .22 (only had it a few months but hopefully 6 to 8k a year) way more than any 2011 and that won't change as I carry a p365xl macro dailyLast edited by static2126; 08-23-2023, 11:36 PM.Comment

I tend to agree with your first friend. I want stacatto to be successful as they are local to me and great guys (sometimes see some employees at the range). But agreed on overpriced and overhyped. A common selling point is low recoil so is any other heavy gun. Trigger is nice but for self defense purposes no real benefit. Fun gun but if you can shoot a glock or p365 or p97 etc will be fine for ccw

Sportsman?s Warehouse has them for $1380.00, they remind me of a poor man?s Wilson Combat EC9 as they are about half the price of the Wilson. I’ve heard others make that same comment regarding the DWX.
I?m semi interested, but will give it time to see how they hold up over time and wait for more variations to be released.Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.Comment

It’s always best to assume negative with Springfield until proven otherwise. I now avoid SA. I could have picked up one in Maryland before moving here but they wanted Dan Wesson level money. Meh.Biden's
