2nd range trip with new XD

I took my new XD 45 ACP Tactical to the range for the second time since I purchased it. All I can say is WOW! On my first trip I was shooting a little low and left. I thought it might be the gun. Apparently not! I must have been jerking the gun. I put 100 rounds right through the center completely removing all of the paper at 15 yards! Well that was the highlight of my day because I then decided to move the target to 25 yards and try and shoot one handed. Let's just say I need some practice. The next 200 rounds went smooth. No FTF's and I have 500 rounds through it. I am very impressed with the XD 45 Tact. Springfield has a winner here!

It's interesting that you say that. Last week, I shot mine for the first time. Same thing as you, low and to the left. Are you right- handed?

Once I got over the euphoria of shooting this sweet piece o' pistol, I came around towards the center. Never did hit the X, though. Seems like the safest place on my lane is the bullseye, LOL

I, too, just love this tool. Well-made and well thought out.

I love my XD9. I just wish the XML didn't sit so far forward on it.

The reason most people shot low and left with an Xd is
Finger placement. Try using the first pad of your trigger
Finger. Enough so that there is about a pens worth of
Space between your finger and the frame.YMMV
I shot my Xd 40 exactly as you have described when I
first got it a couple years ago.After posting this on xdtalk

Shooting low and left is pretty much a given with LOTS of shooters it has generally has nothing to do with the gun, If you are right handed. If you are left handed people shoot low and right.

Yes moving your finger out of the trigger guard is correct, putting less finger on the trigger will allow you to pull back straighter.

The low part is a flinch, or anticipating recoil.

Has Springfield fixed the problem with the slide finish? I had an early one and it had to be babied all the time else it rusted.

Other than that I loved the gun. Great grip angle, great trigger, and no malfunctions.

All of the newer XD's have a Melonite finish now. I have heard they hold up very well compared to the older XD's. I have only had my XD for a month so I cant verify that. But so far so good.

Reply: My philosophy is simple. I never tell my wife anything she doesn't want to hear. She doesn't want to hear I'm an official member of the "Gun a month club" and booked until July 2007 with 1 gun per month purchases. So, I don't tell her. I get a new gun, I put it in the safe and place the box in came in up in the rafters of the garage. No big " Hey honey, check this new gun out" or anything like that. Just buy your guns and put them away. Never tell your wife anything she doesn't want to hear.
