    Ruger LC380 / customer service

Well, I pulled it apart to see and figured I’d order a replacement if needed. Had no signs of a break and the firing pin retainer had the same tip as it shows online. Didn’t look like they pulled it apart to check, the lci was dirty. Who knows where the little piece that was locking up the slide came from, it was the same color and diameter as the retainer pin. I guess it fixed itself when it fell out but having a piece of metal fall out of a gun usually indicates something is broken. No idea, but it should be good to go now.
They did replace the mag catch which was another complaint and it seemed to have helped. They covered shipping and everything appears ok although I would love to know where the broken piece came from or how it ended up in there but either way ruger continues hold up in the warranty and repair department.

I got a LC380 years ago when it was in the roster, shot it a very few Buber of times but ended up going a different route for a carry gun. I got the 9mm conversion along the way and shot a few of each cal a while back and had the slide lock open past the slide stop and it wouldn?t release. Fiddled with it a little and it came free. I wasn?t in love and this didn?t help so I put it aside till recently as I wanted to give it another shot. Same thing, a mag in or so and it locked back all the way, beyond the point of the slide stop where there is no more rearward travel. Took a look and the head of the firing pin retainer was protruding enough to catch the top of the hammer. A little push and it went back into place and cycled until it would work its way out again and lock up. I remember the head of the pin being visible but just under the surface of the slide originally. I pulled up the exploded view and saw how the part was held in. It?s a fairly cheap part and looks to be maybe a roll pin away from replacing it. Sense I had only shot it a couple times in the last multiple years and sense ruger is generally pretty good at repairs and I hate ordering cheap parts from them because shipping costs more than the parts most of the time, I decided to just send it back. The magazine release was rough and gouging up the mag as well so figured they could look at that. I called ruger to get an rma and while I was giving them the info off the gun and I was fiddling with it a maybe 1/8? piece fell out of the hole. I informed them of that and put it in a baggie along with details of what was going on. Just got the gun back and they replaced the mag catch and said the tech didn?t see any broken pins. It would be impossible to tell exactly without pulling it out and there appears to be enough remaining to hold the firing pin and now that the loose piece is out it shouldn?t lock up any more it?s a pretty quick fix between having the broken piece and if you put something down the hole you can tell the pin is shorter than it should be. There is a pretty good chance it would be fine as is but even if I don?t use it much for the price I?ll probably just fix it. I?m tempted to take pics and see if they would refund the price after the fact just to see what they say. I have plenty of ruger firearms and the few small repairs I?ve had done by them went fine. It?s almost a no big deal but I also gave them enough info to verify it and it would take less time than I spent and fed ex to just pop it apart and replace it. All in all I?m not out anything besides waiting for fed ex today as shipping was covered. I enjoy doing small repairs but hate paying for something that could have easily been fixed while they had it. They did function test it and no problems to the piece falling about properly solved the issue but they make parts the way they are for a reason as well. Anyway, no point to this, just wanted to get some thoughts. Side note, I?m enjoying the ruger lcr/lcrx in 22 and 38 and one of them will probably take the place I thought the 380 might get and not that the lcp 22 is available in this state it looks fun so I guess it?s not enough to turn me off of ruger.

      Me too.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Yeah, thought I could make it short bit just kept typing. Nothing important, just a little rambling about first world problems. I’ll try and be better. Lol

            Generic Thread Topic Jack

Just musing about the LC pistol. Is it blow back like other pocket .380 or is it the Browning tilt barrel or whatever its called ? I asked as there is quite a difference in energy between a .380 and 9mm. Good luck with it in any event. Also recently got the LCRx in 38 spl 3-inch barrel and it has rekindled my love of shooting.

I guess it would be more of a tilting action, the 9mm and 380 are pretty similar. The 380 slide, of corse, has noticeably less recoil than the 9mm and from what I remember shoots a bit softer than the couple blow black 380s I?ve shot.
The gun isn?t terribly comfortable and if I?m shooting 380 I?ll go with something smaller like an lcp or lcr although the slightly larger and heavier lc380 is definitely softer than the lcp.
I like my lcrx in 38, it also has the 3? barrel. I kinda wish it had the concealed hammer like the regular lcr as I rarely shoot single action. At first I thought I did way better with the x vs the regular lcr but after a bit of time on both it?s just what I?ve been shooting the most, either way they both do pretty well.

Ruger makes a conversion to convert LC380 to LC9. No ffl necessary. The gun is not a blowback, therefore the slide is easier to retract.

It's really a sweet shooter. But the later editions have a better trigger (not sure if later editions are Cal legal).
The LC380 is the ideal woman's gun. Easy to pull the slide, gentle recoil. And small, but not too tiny and therefore snappy like the LCP.

                  Conversion sounds good.

I finally got the conversion a while back, overpriced but at the time and to some extent still, it was one of the few non ppt or sse single stack 9mm. I hogue made a grip like they do for the lcp that pins in place, my biggest gripe outside the trigger is the almost concave grip but I shoot the lcp quite a bit so the trigger is manageable. The newer striker fired version isn?t currently available on the roster and of going off roster there are probably better options. Shooting the 380 slide after the 9mm really shows the recoil reduction between the calibers.
