Finally pulled the trigger on a new M9

When I was in the army, I had issues with the M9's weak extractor that would routinely stovepipe spent cartridges. Its also heavy.

The SA trigger pull is nice, the reset is nice, but the safety is also a de-cocker so you cannot carry cocked and locked.

It took me 2 or 3 years to be able to throw safety and cock hammer with a single hand. Big training curve.

I mean, if you like collecting Army guns, by all means. If you are looking for either a duty, CCW, etc...

I'd go with something modern, polymer and striker fired.

XD9 is what I'd call serviceable. Trigger isn't that great, reset is virtually non-existent. I got mine on sale for $450, with rebate for 4 extra mags. Its a common enough gun they make all kinds of holsters for it. There is also a factory optics cut slide, and factory adapters for the most common RDOs. Its grip angle is a little better than the glock. First time I tried a range gun, I was nailing targets at 20m with no issue. Running through manual of arms is smooth.

There is also an accessory rail for light and/or laser.

So, XD9 + holosun, and was easily able a few different holsters for my exact setup.

It works. If I was in some other state without the roster, I'd get something like a H&K VP9 or an M&P 2.0 full size, or one of the many better modern guns.

Do you live outside of ca now or are you a cop? 92x performance is unfortunately off roster and that?s the going price

As to whether or not the off roster price is worth it, that always come down to the individual

I?ve got setups I like in the cz75 and p320 platforms so I haven?t bothered with the beretta 92 platform. just wanted to share a perspective confirming that the ?rep? of 92 for lower reliability is following it around, justified or not, when I looked into the 92x

Neither cop nor out of CA. You're correct; it is up to the individual. I wasn't downing the 92x specifically, only that people pay $3K for a handgun when they can buy a $600 one and get a few upgrades installed. Technology does not make up for poor ability. My P226s only have polished internals and an Short Reset in them, otherwise bone stock...but I train for defensive engagements, not competitions. I only use competitions to better my efficiency. So for that purpose, hifalutin' "superguns" are pointless. Old engineering adage: The more you complicate the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.

I agree that there is a rep about the 92 series, but given that I've used many of them over time in the Army both CONUS and OCONUS, the reputation is undeserved.

With the shooting hand? I could do this picking up the pistol for the first time and I have medium size hands.

But I agree with TTT, whats the point in being able to do that?

I honestly believe you underestimate the XD, as I think it is more than just serviceable, but a great pistol. I have an XD40, along with several pistols of different makes, so I do have much to compare it to. The stock trigger take-up, and pull are lighter than on my 3 Glocks all gen 3. Now the reset is shorter and more tactical on the Glocks, especially in dry fire, but when shooting them side by side it doesn't really make much of a difference if your familiar where the reset is. At my range in SoCal, we can rent off roster guns. I rented Walther PDP, Sig 365XL, Sig M17, Sig M18, and CZP10C. I also shot them side by side with my XD40, and their shorter reset didn't make a difference in my speed or accuracy. The recoil was about the same, except for the PDP, which had more muzzle flip, and these were all 9mm, compared to my 40. The XD is a heavy polymer gun, which cuts down on recoil. The Springfield XD feels great in the hand and is very accurate.

I dont have anything against the XD. I had two of them. They are very robust guns. I just got rid of them because I simply didnt like them and wanted cash to by a gun I really wanted. Theres a lot of guns I'd rather have than an XD, multiple Beretta 92 variants for example.

The XD doesn't seem to be very popular on this forum. Over the years I have watched just about every single video about the XD. I've also read just about every comment (lol retired) especially paying attention to people who owned multiple plastic striker brands. Overwhelmingly the comments are positive towards the XD. The shooters who own them really love them, even though they have many other choices, especially outside California.

Good choice OP. Especially ignoring the doofus trying to change your mind for an XD no less. WTF?! Who does that?

The M9/92fs is a classic.

I had one and stupidly sold it, I regretted it and eventually replaced it. I'm not making that mistake again.

Pick up a 13lb hammer spring to lighten the trigger pull a bit. If you go any lighter you may have light primer strikes.

On a side note, I had a couple XDs, but they didn't do anything a Glock won't do better IMHO. So I got rid of them. I don't have anything against the XD, I just rather spend my money on guns I actually want like Berettas and Glocks. XDs have low resale value, so you can always get one used for cheap if you really want one, never buy a new XD, that's a sucker move.

Another side note. I've had a lot of CZs (the compact, full size, SP01, and TS). I got rid of all of them and have no regrets. But I have 3 Beretta's (92fs inox, 92fs Brigadier, and M9). So that should tell you how much I prefer the 92/M9 to the CZs. Disclaimer: I do have a Shadow 2 and that is the only CZ I really, really, like more than the Berettas. The S2 is darn near perfect IMHO.

Yes, XD's do have low resale value. But to be fair so do most polymer plastic strikers, except Glocks which really hold their value well. I will give you just one example, the CZ-P10C, which is a great polymer striker. That gun started off selling new for $500, now you can buy them new online for $299. In California a new XD is about $500, but they sell new for about $350 nationwide. My point is the XD isn't any worse off in lost value, then most plastic strikers.
