Finally pulled the trigger on a new M9

Been wanting a Beretta M9 for a couple years now but more recently I was kind of torn between that and the CZ75B. Went into bass pro shop ready to buy. They only had the M9 in stock but this older guy at the counter tried to talk me out of it. Trying to push me towards an XD9.

I didn't want another striker fired pistol nor do I want another polymer pistol. Long story short, I pushed past this guys weird shaming and hatred for the M9 and bought it anyway.

    Now the waiting game

Congratulations on the purchase and staying the course.
M9/92FS are great platforms and one of the softest shooting guns I’ve shot.
Have had both over the years and regret selling them off.
Still need to add an M9 back into my collection to go go with my M16A2.

Yeah, I don't know why he disliked it so much. He was saying the bore axis is crap. Maybe I'm just not a proficient enough shooter to care. I've shot the XD9 and personally I would rather shoot my Glock anyway. I wanted a gun that I just enjoy shooting which is why I wanted an M9.

Nothing against them but polymer guns feel like a toy when you pick them up. I wanted something that feels like a weapon. M9s are just cool

You made the right decision ignoring that guy and getting the M9. XD’s are fine and I have one as well but it’s not up to the Beretta standard.

I got my first Beretta 92 in the mid 80’s. A good friend had a CZ75 and I liked it but I liked the Beretta much better. Now I also have a CZ75 and it’s a great gun too but I still prefer the Beretta.

Nice, yeah I figure Ill end up with a CZ75 at some point in the future anyway. Might as well grab the M9 since it's here and I was on the fence either way.

Glad to know I made the right choice. There was basically zero chance of them getting me to buy another polymer gun anyway. When I told the guy I just don't want a striker fired pistol right now he looked at me like I was nuts.

I just wanted a quality hammer-fired semi auto which by all accounts is what I got

Congratulations. You?ll like it. I?ve owned 3 92FSs in the past but silly me sold them. In April I bought another. I?ve put a Beretta extended magazine release, Langton TJIAB, Wilson trigger, recoil spring/guide rod and slim G10 grips on it. I have a G decocker kit but have not installed yet. It?s mostly a range gun and I enjoy shooting it.

Lots of folks dislike the Beretta due to the DA/SA trigger and bulk. It served the military and law enforcement for many years.

            Enjoy your M9.

Good choice OP. Especially ignoring the doofus trying to change your mind for an XD no less. WTF?! Who does that?

              The M9/92fs is a classic.

I had one and stupidly sold it, I regretted it and eventually replaced it. I'm not making that mistake again.

Pick up a 13lb hammer spring to lighten the trigger pull a bit. If you go any lighter you may have light primer strikes.

On a side note, I had a couple XDs, but they didn't do anything a Glock won't do better IMHO. So I got rid of them. I don't have anything against the XD, I just rather spend my money on guns I actually want like Berettas and Glocks. XDs have low resale value, so you can always get one used for cheap if you really want one, never buy a new XD, that's a sucker move.

Another side note. I've had a lot of CZs (the compact, full size, SP01, and TS). I got rid of all of them and have no regrets. But I have 3 Beretta's (92fs inox, 92fs Brigadier, and M9). So that should tell you how much I prefer the 92/M9 to the CZs. Disclaimer: I do have a Shadow 2 and that is the only CZ I really, really, like more than the Berettas. The S2 is darn near perfect IMHO.

I guess I don't understand the problem with the Double action pull. If you buy an M9 for a carry gun then maybe but who is doing that? If you bought it for a range gun then you can put it in battery just like a Glock or anything else and you are in single action from the first pull.

If you did carry it wouldn't you just train for the DA/SA? Plenty of people carry double action revolvers without a problem. Maybe I'm a nervous nelly but I would feel a lot weirder about walking around carrying a 1911 with the hammer back even with the safety.

agreed. Anyone that complains about DA/SA is either very inexperienced or just b1tching, or both. Similar to people complaining about how the Glock grip "hump/angle" hurts or doesn't "fit" their little b1tch hands. People need to stop complaining and buy some ammo or pay for some instruction to get experience and some basic shooting skill instead of running their mouths looking like idiots.

I have a lot of different guns with different triggers. I didn't start shooting them all really well right away. You have to practice. It takes a little effort.

Congrats, never could understand a gun shop employee trying to talk someone out of buying a gun. Isn’t it their job to sell guns?

Bass Pro Shop, explains it. BPS/Cabela's, Turners, Sportsmans Warehouse, etc... you're bound to get some dipchit neckbeard "know-it-all" cause they work at a gunstore, spouting nonsense. You have to know exactly what you want and ignore the bullchit to buy a gun from those places. Do your research before going into one of those places.

Congrats OP for sticking to your choice and not falling for the counter guy pushing a gun that does not sell well.

I guess that's my question. Is there validity to him saying that the bore axis on the Beretta is too high?

Absolutely NOT an issue. Pure nonsense. There's a lot of guns with "high" bore axis (Sig and HK). And the XD has "high" bore axis too, so... WTF? Why was he ragging on the Beretta when the XD also has high bore axis? Just an idiot.

The profit margin on combat tupperware is probably dramatically higher than that of all-metal models. Or he's just an idiot.

Where was all this love for the Beretta 92 when I was (or seemed to be, in my mind) the only person defending them? It's too heavy for military use. It's too big for a 9mm. It has bad sights. It only holds 15 rounds. Whah whah. There are some legitimate drawbacks with the 92, but it's a sweet, sweet pistol regardless, and one of the best-looking ever produced (IMO). I love my 92 Inox... and I love my 96 Inox even more.

And to find people other than me who admit they prefer the traditional DA trigger on a semi-auto? Is Hell freezing over? What's next... Sig is going to finally reposition their slide catch lever above the trigger where it belongs, instead of the Euro-trash location?!

To the O.P.: Excellent choice, buddy!
