The EMP3 is the model available to us peon's in commiefornia.
The EMP4 is the one to get.
It's amazing how much difference the 1" makes.
The take down "tool" can be made from a paperclip or piece of small gauge wire in about 10 seconds.
My overall best pistol that I enjoy shooting.Comment

I'd be all over that if available here.Comment

$1300 bones is too rich for my blood. I?ve seen some other ones that were officer size, but used at the local gun store. One of them was a Para Ordinance. I have no experience with them and I know nothing about them. It did look nice though.sigpic

I mean not my best overall gun but it is one of my favorites, and listed on my CCW. I usually only carry this in a shoulder holster Miami vice style with a mag. Also running the flush mod for the mags. The EMP3 is the model available to us peon's in commiefornia.

The three inch takes a plastic clip for take down and the four inch uses the paper clip tool. I have a three inch and love it and had a four inch contour and sold because it just didn't fit my hand right. The EMP3 is the model available to us peon's in commiefornia.

Since you guys are talking about 1911 and prices, what do you guys think of the Rock Island ones that go for $350 new? Should I get one? Sounds like a good deal on grabagun. Opinions please.Comment

Bare bones 1911. Solid gun with zero bells and whistles. Sights are standard GI and basic. Rear is dovetailed and front is staked so front replacement requires tools and knowledge. Grips are plain wood.
I got a compact for $299 and the grip screw escutcheon was stripped leaving the screw proud above the grip. Gun came w/7 rd mag instead of six and stuck out of the grip.
Short e-mail to their service folks in Parumph w/pix and they sent me a new escutcheon and screw, and a proper mag (offered to return it at their expense and they declined).
Gun runs good and convinced me to by a Commander and a target version.Comment

RIA is good in that price range. I like the Tisas better in that price range but it's not on the roster and RIA is.Comment

My $0.02 is you should get one if you are happy with it as is or plan to buy tools and use it as a way to learn so your own work on 1911. If you go down the path of changing the grips, the sights, modding the action, then price it all out and you will likely find that an offroster other model ria or another model 1911 will work better for you out of the box
Or you could get a striker fired gun if your choice in the $500 rangeComment

This one started out as a plain GI on roster Rock.
Three-dot sights from Fusion- $35
Rubber grips from Advanced Tactical- $21
RIA hammer from Hooper- $20
RIA beavertail grip safety from Hooper- $25
Wolff spring calibration kit- $25
All mods with hand tools found in an average toolbox.
Total cost under $550.
It was fun to set up the way I want it and it shoots great! Better than anything I've shot out of the box for anywhere close to that price. Well worth the time and cash.

What was wrong with the original beavertail safety?Comment
