I just got an S&W 686 out of jail, shot it and rang steel out to 100 yards today. Now I need a couple of speed loaders. Anyone got one they prefer?

I personally prefer the speedloaders that don't require twisting of a knob. Safariland Comp 1,2, or 3, JetLoader, or S.L. Longwitz is what I used on my only revolver. You might not be all that fond of the price of some of those above however.

Got my first 686 at the 1980s and have been shooting it since. The two types of speed loaders for my 686(s) were HKS (twist to release) and Safariland (push to release.) They both have their fans -- get both and see which one fits your liking.Comment

Safariland Comp III speedloaders are awesome, but they are also big (designed for competition). The Comp II are really good, also, but smaller. Faster than the HKS once you practice with them.
The Safariland® Comp III Speedloader is injection molded and its spring-driven action provides the fastest, most positive reloading available, making it most popular for competition use. Depending on the gun, all Safariland® Speedloaders may require custom grips to ensure proper clearance. Offered in two sizes: medium
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

Key question for you on which model 686:
Is it the 6-round or the "Plus" 7-round version?
Why do I ask:
I have a 686 in both and also HKS speedloaders for both.
The HKS speedloaders I have for the 6-round have been flawless and worked very, very well.
The HKS speedloaders I bought for the 7-round were nothing but trouble. The rims hung up in the HKS loader holes. Even after honing/polishing the holes to slightly enlarge those that were troublesome (nearly all are/were), I still don't completely trust those HKS loaders. Still have the odd hang-up now and then, even after the honing/polishing work.Updated UserID - formerly TheFlashComment

I have used Safariland Comp II on my S&W 586 and GP100. Work great. Very fast.
I tried HKS, I prefer the Safariland.
I have three Safariland speed-loaders for each one of my revolvers.

I definitely like push better than twist. I think twist are the suck- have used both..and still have twists gathering dust in a box..if you are near Folsom you can have them.
The other thing is..On my carry pistol I use speed strips as they are much more convenient to carryBeans and BulletsComment

I second on Speedbeez. My son and I have shot IDPA revolvers for many, many years and used all the different sorts of speedloaders.
Speedbeez work the best BUTT everyone's got a big butt - Pee Wee
Make sure you're grip will allow proper Fast reloads. On my Model 60 I had to do some dremel sanding work on the grip. Not very much but it was enough to allow for quick reloads. I'd done the same thing with my son's 686 SSR years ago.Spreading the WORD according to COLT. and Smith, Wesson, Ruger, HK, Sig, High Standard, Browning
