4" Optic Cut Shield

Been thinking of getting an optic for one of my handguns but not sure I will like it. Saw a 4" Shield Plus up in Oregon and really liked it. Problem is it is not on the roster. Decided to pick up a 4" slide off Ebay and build one for my Shield 1.0. Have about 150 rounds through it so far and like it a lot. I also like being able to swap between the 3 and 4" barrels in about 30 seconds.

Probably have around $275 plus sights and optic in the build. The slide is $50 on Ebay and the 4" barrel is $150. You have to add everything to the slide. There are few parts that interchange but I did not want to do that anyway. Recoil spring was a little over $20 off Ebay but hear rumors Smith and Wesson will send you one for free. Ended up putting a Holosun 407k on it.

Yeah the slides are all interchangeable from 1.0 to plus. Parts in the slide are different

I had same thought last year(2022), saw same stripped slide on CDNN soprts(it was $49.99 last year)

however I ended up NO-GO for this project because the calculation result gave me a number around $500
(slide+slide parts kit+slide end cap+sights+barrel+recoil spring+S&W red dot)

I was only able to find an aftermarket 4" barrel for this slide and that was pricy.

other cheaper 4" M&P barrels are for regular M&P, NOT for Shield/Shield Plus

And yes you are right, it may cost more if purchase parts from different places(ebay, CDNN sports, Brownwells...etc.)

This will be very helpful if you would like to post a list of parts(or private message?)

Yeah it has gotten a little expensive. Just like everything in California. Still debating the trigger. I will say my trigger got a little worse after I did this as I replaced my striker plunger. It probably needs time to work itself in. My original 3.1" barreled slide has about 12-1500 rounds through it and the trigger has actually gotten a ton better.


Parts list for this. Hope they are all right but think this was the final:

2.0 Slide off Ebay

4" barrel from Tr-Enableing. They are sold out now. But they were $149 delivered and no tax. They do have ported models but you either have to go with a slightly longer barrel or have your slide cut for the porting. Sometimes they sell them on Ebay too for about $10 more but have to pay tax too.

The correct spring is part number 3009903. Ebay also. Others have used 4" SW compact recoil springs. And I believe Galloway makes some that will work also but the first one is the one SW uses on it's 4" Shields. Also some have had luck getting SW to send them one for free. A little over $20 delivered from Ebay

Striker Guide #277940000 I did not know this existed and was kind of a pain to get in. Be sure and put it in before you put your striker plunger in.

Got most of this info off Reddit but this is what I ordered I believe the striker is interchangeable between the 1.0 and 2.0 but they are listed differently. I think you could use the end cap and striker plunger off the 1.0. I know you could use the sights. The extractor spring is different.

Yes the most annoying thing is the compatibility of some small parts; without official schematic from Smith&Wesson to use as reference is even more frustrated.

Yeah California Shields are 1.0. I don't think they were called that until the 2.0's came out.

100%. This just came about because we have the originals on the roster (Gen 1.0), then there were the 2.0 (not on the roster), now we have the Plus with all of it's variants too (not on the roster).
