Just put them in rectangular soft cases that allow for a small lock and put those into something else (rolling range back, backpack, rifle case, etc)

You are effing right!!! That would have simplified things...!!! And since I will not need to bring 5 pistols on a regular basis - it would have been the most practical... Again... #stupidMe

Can you recommend a few? This is actually exactly what I've been looking for. I use a Husky bag for my non-firearms right now, and would love to just throw a few lockable pistol rugs into it.

I use to have a multi-pistol hard case. After a few uses I found it annoying. Now I use the Midway single pistol soft cases, and just toss them in a tool bag. I use different color cases for different guns ( OD Green, Tan, Gray, Purple, Black, Camo, and Pink ). Each type of gun goes in a specific colored case. It is easier to find the gun I am looking for in my safe if it is in a color coded case.

Now they seem to only have them in black.

I don't have any pistols with a red dot sight. I do have 2 pistols with scopes which fit in Midways older big cases.

Hard cases with custom cutouts don't work well unless you dedicate them to a single gun or a very small set of guns, usually 3-4. If you have more guns, if your guns are quite different, if you have extra magazines, it's best to use per-gun dedicated soft case.

I have over a dozen of these Midway Pistol Cases, they are inexpensive and each is dedicated to a specific gun. Magazines stay in the case at all times. On the other side of the case are two square pockets to keep gun-specific spare parts: soft cloth, glass cleaning solution, spare batteries for guns with optics, spare fiber optic filaments of correct diameter for iron sights, base pad parts and alike. For quick reference, handles of the primary competition bags are color-coded with colored zip ties (some more than one), but I always check the magazines to ensure I'm picking up the correct bag. When going to the range, each gun I'm taking goes into its own case and I know that I have everything I need for that gun: magazines and obscure spare parts.

I do have one plastic handgun case that has three layers of soft foam and I use it for "variety days" or when I'm taking someone shooting. Whatever guns go into that case go in with magazine inserted so that I don't end up without. But the foam is not cut and the guns lay flat, in a pattern to fill the space. I also have one or two 4-gun soft cases that are not gun-specific and that I would use to bring to the range guns that don't have dedicated soft case.

Hi, I’m current using several of this pistol rug because of the ring on the end that allows the zipper to be locked with a tsa lock, and it’s big enough to fit full size 5” barrel pistols with red dot

Edit: fwiw, I don’t go for the rugs with space for magazines because I was told by Leo friends to keep ammo and magazines in a separate bag from the firearms when transporting

I completely agree. Soft range bags are lighter, easier to carry, can provide ample protection, better organization of weapons, ammo and other gear for any purpose. Hard cases are only good for dedicated gear. I own both but the hard cases are used far less and for specific applications. Most of the time a soft case is more practical. If I'm worried about em getting crushed, I place the whole range bag in a case. I often use lockable ice chests of various sizes for such trips, especially when hunting.

i like to use a lockable, hard guitar case. yesterday was able to fit 2 long guns and 2 pistols. long guns are “covered” in those silicone gun socks while pistols are in zippered pistol rugs. magazines, ammo, etc are carried in a large backpack. sometimes carry the ammo in an ammo can.

I'm a noob. But I bought this case for my two hand guns because I wanted to case for both. Works for my needs.

And I needed it to fit both guns with the trigger locks attached.

There is still another customizable foam that is placed on top. I figure I can use the bottom right portion of that one to make room for a few magazines.
