Totally bias review because I hate p320’s. I would take a vp9, glock, m&p, pdp, ppq, canik probably even an xd over them. Can’t speak on the Springfield but the 2011 as a platform, If they’re as reliable as current staccatos then take that all day. Better triggerr like an another world trigger, I’ve had a p320 with a gray guns trigger and a legion and the triggers still have the break of felling like a rubber band just released. The weight of the 2011 will stay in target easier and you can get faster shots off. You have a safety with a 2011 so that’s different, I don’t know how big the one on the Springfield is but on staccatos you don’t have to think about it your hands just there when you draw it. My experience has been anyone I let shoot one with decent fundamentals immediately shoots faster and more accurately from a striker gun. Plus a 2011 isn’t just going to go off in your holster

I don't have either a "2011" (2011 actually being specifically a "Staccato" brand term) or a P320, even though I can get easily get either no-longer being a CA resident.

I do have similar and many 1911 and Glocks. I'm more-likely carrying a Glock due to weight, caliber, ammo-capacity. I understand the 2011 will have the capacity and caliber, both likely in 9mm, however.

I also echo Post 3's P320 anxieties and don't care to be part of the percentage of folks who've experienced ADs when I've already been carrying and using Glocks now for decades.

There's also the cost of investing into a new or different platform of guns, such as a 2011, which is not just the gun, but the ammo, training, holsters, accessories (optics, mounting plates, spare mags, more holsters) and time I'm thinking ~10,000 rounds of ammo for me to be confident in a new carry system.

While I'm usually carrying a Glock, sometimes I'll just be in a 1911 mood (or a classic SIG or even revolver mood).

If a person is considering either of these in California, whether exempt or not, or paying the off-roster premium, do consider getting both and coming back to tell us of why you chose one or the other yourself.

If I was still working, I'd consider trying the 2011 Staccato, but staying with Glock, instead of going to its P320 "competitor" as I see no advantage switching to a P320 from a Glock unless an employer only has the 2011 and P320 as the choices.

Honestly i find that it does not matter much for high speed stuff. For slower fire/precision then it can make a huge difference. I compete with DA/SA CZs (Shadow2 and SP01, both customized), a barely modified CZ P10F striker fired and a modified 1911. The triggers are different but when running a stage the trigger has little to do with the end result, the exception being the possibility of the fire shot on the DA if rushed.

What are the differences? Well weight for one since most striker guns are polymer frames. Sure you can get the weight up but nothing like a true metal gun.

The operation is also a little different being cocked and locked versus no (usually) safety.

I have two Sig P320, an RX and X5. I don’t have a fully built 2011, but I do have some 1911 wide bodies. If I were to take a class requiring 400 to 1K rounds I’d probably bring one of my P320s just because they’re in 9mm. If I had a 2011 in 9mm I wouldn’t mind bringing it provided the gun and mags are tuned. I’m not saying the 2011 is unreliable I just want to make sure all is good for a class I’m taking, I want to focus on the curriculum instead of worrying of my gun choking during drills. I still believe a tuned 1911/2011 is very reliable and still my favorite sidearm for SHTF.

              - Are the 2011’s worth the price tag?
              - Is the manual of arms different from a hammer fired to a striker fired?
If you can get a Prodigy, then get one. Having said that, these questions you’re asking are pretty significant. The differences are too many to list exhaustively here, but start with:
              - A hammer and thumb safety on the 2011 vs. no hammer and longer, heavier trigger pull on the striker fired gun.
              - The 2011s are well worth the price tag to those who appreciate what they offer.
              - The manual of arms on the 2011 involves disengaging the thumb safety prior to firing a light but crisp trigger with short presses and resets, while the manual of arms on the striker fired gun involves pointing the gun and firing with longer, heavier trigger pulls and longer resets.

I really recommend doing a lot of research online about all the differences besides just reading responses on this thread. But the good news is that if you buy a Prodigy and decide it’s not for you, I’ll buy it off you for MSRP.

They're 2 different pistols, SA/DA, the 320 may have no manual safety, etc so the manual of arms will be different. Beside ergos the trigger of a "2011" is a slide vs a pivot, and the FCU of the 320 and its ability to change out frames/slides may be an advantage to most. The trigger of the Prodigy is not as defined as a 2011, most report it's better then most stiker fired pistols. Also metal framed guns are more nose heavy which will reduced muzzle flip due to the extra weight vs a polymer pistol.

Get both, especially if you are roster exempt

Just my $0.02 based on your questions, try more of both guns. If you can, do some bill drill, and transition across a few targets at various distances to see what your splits, transitions and hits look like, and how it feels for you….

Also question of what division you want to shoot if competition matters to you

I have shot the P320 at an indoor range, and was not wowed by it.

I own a Staccato P, and that wows me, it is my favorite 9mm pistol (along with my Wilson Combat EDC X9L) to shoot. I am in the process of selling a lot of my 9mm pistols because they pale in comparison.

Trigger is eons better than a striker fired pistol, no comparison.I think the Staccatos are worth every penny, but I can buy them at retail, not CA off roster pricing.

Yes. The 2011/1911 for carry should be chambered, with the hammer cocked, and safety engaged. Takes a different mindset/training than a Glock.

People joke about staccato owners because so many people buy them expecting the gun to basically shoot itself... and they're terribly unskilled and poor shots with their $3000 gun, getting ran over in games by guys with clapped out glocks.

They're fantastic guns, but that means nothing unless you're also a fantastic shooter.

I'm an OK shooter, and because of that I prefer striker guns. They're simple, the longer trigger gives you a wider margin of error, and theyre easier to manipulate quickly under stress. I think they're better to learn on and better to get fast with. If you're totally crushing local comps, and really want to step up to the next level, sure, go with a 2011 or a shadow 2 or another high end game gun.

I have a nice 1911 with a sub 2 pound trigger thats ridiculously short. It can be triple tapped like nothing... and I don't like using it for classes or running fast. I have enough other stuff to worry about besides the gun. Id rather run a admittedly worse striker gun... the 1911 trigger being what it is, isnt really helpful when you're trying to learn the platform. I feel its almost detrimental.

Go with the Glock. You invest in Handgun Classes I think you get the most out of using a Glock.

I got my CCW and EDC either a G26, G19 or G17 depending on what I am wearing. The Manual of Arms is all the same for my carry guns.

Does anyone else think it’s funny that we’re discussing the merits of a 2011 versus a P320 in the “California Handguns” subforum? That just shows you how common off-roster guns really are in this state.

I shoot both. Staccato P and Sig P320 Proffesional with AXG frame. Shoot both with irons. Both so far been 100%reliable. Off the bench accuracy is a bit better with Staccato. Sig P320 AXG has great ergonomics but the trigger can stand improvement. Both are excellent guns. Neither feel as good in the hand as a single stack 1911. Neither shoot like CZ TAC SPORT Orange. But as duty guns, both Staccato and P320 are good to go.
