Les Baer...Worth it?

I think high end 1911's have their place. My choice was to have a good 1911 like a TRP or Dan Wesson PM-7. Why? I find the fit and finish very acceptable to the price range as they offer what you pay for - a very good quality 1911.

I have shot a Baer and Wilson in the past. I also know that certain parts and finish are superior to the TRP and DW products. But not enough for me to spend the extra $1,500.

Rock on with the price tag and build if that is what YOU want. I pass on my end for the above stated reasons.

I buy my guns with the intention of shooting them. I own 3 Baers, a Premium 2
with the 1.5 inch guarantee, a Custom Carry also with the 1.5" guarantee that I use for my CCW pistol, and a Concept 3 two tone.
These are amazing pistols that are custom made and fitted to be extremely accurate shooters.
You do need to shoot a minimum of 500 rounds to properly break them in. [ATTACH]1113236[/ATTACH]

LOL. And then he'd have a $500 pistol that he spent $2500 on. That's like dumping $10,000 into your Camry for wheels, exhaust, and tint.

Have you actually shot a Baer? There is an actual difference in fitting. Granted not everyone cares about that.

I agree. Put $10K in a Camry and they think they are on par with an Indy car.

Never had an LB, but can highly recommend the TRP. I have had two Wilson Combats, a CQB (off roster version) and a Tactical Elite (sold that one), and I have to say my TRP stands up to both. I also have an older Colt Combat Commander and would say the same.

My TRP has matching numbers engraved on the barrel and in the slide, so some fitting took place, and whoever was responsible for mine took their job seriously.

None of the options discussed are custom anyway, so it depends on who put them together.

I wouldn't want any car or SUV that had poor fit and finish and didn't work after driving it off the lot.

Some else said, that their TRS was their SHFT gun. Really. Anyone with a clue would never have a 1911 as a SHFT gun. You SHFT gun that carries 7 rounds, maybe 10 and requires constant maintenance.

I've had plenty of 1911s. Let it run even a little bit dry and see what happens.

Your assessment is confused. Les Baers are not like other guns. Stop expecting them to be. I don't buy SUVs and then complain that they don't drive like cars. It would just show that I don't understand what an SUV is vis-a-vis handling.

Get a LB Premiere II Mine is over 20 years with 2 or 3 extractor replacements now at about 50-75K round count. The Springfield's are Ok if you replace the hammer, sear and disconnector which are all MIM parts I did that and Jardine put in real steel and a 2 LB trigger so it was a starting point for me, that is what they are good for MIM parts in non critical area though John said they are strong just cannot hold a aharp edge like hammer or sear. Stock not anywhere near a new LB. LB Will go up Mine was 1000K when I bought it now what 2500?

LOL yeah John told me to run "wet" though I shoot cast and it gets sticky from wax lube and powder it still runs dry and dirty just keep a 18 spring in it.

I go 1000K rounds or more then clean

You're analogy is false. It's not the result of poor fit and finish. It is a build philosophy that differs from others. Some of the best cars in the world require a break in period to see maximum performance and allow burnishing of the engine parts.

SHTF is a non-sequitur. Different subject.

Brett also recommends Dan Wesson as a best value. The tolerances a more in spec with those than many semi custom shops. Yes, even Wilson.
