Pistol Rack

I use them exclusively. They hold everything from my Colt Gov 380 to my 6" 586. The guns do flop around a bit but not bad. As someone else said, you may have to play with how you put your guns in the rack, upside down or right side up.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the foam paded (interior) cases that come with your gun at the time of purchase trap/ absorb moisture. Not a good combo with a firearm that you don't want to rust.

I've heard the same thing. I don't know if that's true or not, but just put a desiccant in there like silica gel. You can use rice too (uncooked) but it's not as good.

You can get silica gel on the cheap if you're smart about it. It's a little pricey for the volume you get if you buy it in pre-made packs at the hardware store, so here's an alternative:

Get a tub of Tidy Cat brand cat litter, the kind that is "crystal" litter. Make sure to get the unscented kind too if you don't want your guns to smell "fresh". All this litter is is pure silica gel! Then just make little packets using cloth and a string to tie it shut and whammo- you've got silica gel packs for dirt cheap. Every few months, take out the old packets, put in new ones, and bake the old packets in the oven for about an hour on a very low setting. The moisture cooks back out of the packets and they're like new again.

I do this with all of my firearm cases and I haven't experienced rust yet. I live in a very wet part of CA too (Humboldt).

as for the racks any one ever try a sub compact in them???

Isn't that why manufacturer's ship the actual gun in a plastic bag with all that oil?

1911's, sig p226, p229, s&w M&P full-sized, sig trailside, Kahr PM9 (is this small enough as a subcompact?) all fit fine.

Have you heard of rifle rods? THey make a setup for the pistol that is sweet called handgun hangers. Parralax tactical (on here) sells them.

Maybe that is a problem when these would be in warehouses and on trucks, but it is dry in my safe and been that way for years with just regular oil after regular cleaning and use, Some of them I only bring out every few years to fumble with them, and they still look great with no signs of moisture damage.

I'm experimenting with a different solution because I have a simple safe with no enough room and no budget for a bigger safe right now. From a local store called storables I'm using a black metal pole with an arm and a hook. The pole will be placed in the back corner of the safe, the arm will stick out and the hook goes over the arm. Then the handguns can hang from the hooks by the trigger guard.

The poles come from the "steel shelving" portion of the store. I picked a 5-foot pole and it tightly fits into my safe (Stackon GSG8 I believe). The pole/post:

my new pistol racks...door rack holds 8 pistols of all sizes..made by rack em. was going to use velcro pockets, but figured I still have room underneath this rack if I really needed more space for pistols. Wood rack holds 8 pistols and got from a guy who custom makes them on sigforum (18.5").

safe width is 28" and door width is 21.5" and the door rack barely fits.
