Yeah. It was really raggedy. But then I start thinking "40 cal python" "factory letter" "only one" ...

I got the barrels from Larry Poppert's gun shop --- IRC it was three pitted 8" barrels for $99. I've got 6 (8?) different projects out of one barrel so it was well worth it.

The first Museum auction was a wild bargain. After people found out about it, the latter two were nuts. Here's a repost about the 40 cal:

Experimental .40 caliber python. Somewhat "oxidized" (rusty), missing a crane screw, erractic blueing.

But: comes with a factory letter.

      Price?

      $8,625!!!!!

That's not even "out of my ballpark" --- that's some other game entirely. Looks like quite a find for the serious collector though. Hopefully one of "us" got it

Here's their description and a couple photos.

Hmmm, how about a moonclipped 38 Super or 38 Short colt? You can still run .357" bullets and don't need to rebore the barrel.

Then again a bull barrel .40 or 10mm would be cool too...

I'm scheming on the clymer reamers to recreate...Though perhaps in the adult 10mm version

Currently spending friday night cutting up a rusted 8" python barrel to make a low rent 3" combat python. Good thing my gf tweaks on her projects too or there'd be a lot of drama.

38 super has a bullet diam of .356 vs .358 for 357mag/38spl so using an unmodified barrel would probably give pretty bad accuracy, I'd think. It'be be nice to do less work of course.

I'm just looking at the 41mag and thinking w/ 10mm there'd be enough material left that it'd increase the stoutness noticeably. Plus then I could shoot 10mm w/o chasing brass everywhere. (Yeah yeah I know about the 610
