If the 686 is pre-lock, get it; otherwise get the Ruger

Not a waste of time, I was just stating that I already said all that in the OP.
Since the 686 only comes in 357 I figured calber was a given.
Finish I stated SS (Stainless Steel) and stated 6" 6 shot.
For use I said cast shooting and maybe hunting.
Since the 357 is not a brown bear caliber, I guess I figured pig and dear size game was a given.

Going to shoot a GP100 tomorrow.
No 686 to shoot or local to handle.

S&W is like a prom queen.
Rugher is like a tom boy that likes to have fun in the mud!

I'm surprised nobody has given the standard Calguns answer...

              Por que no los dos?

I like S&W revolvers but don't own one with a Hillary hole.

Want one in 45ACP but haven't found one without a Bill Cinton beard...

I ended up getting a S&W 629 Deluxe in 44 magnum for "bear duties".

Pretty close in comparison. I would say the S&W is a touch more elegant while the Ruger is a bit more rugged. Either is a superb choice for a workhorse .357.

As for the "only get a pre-lock S&W" silliness, ignore it. The only reports of failure due to the lock always start with, "My friend this happen to him..." I've run a 686SSR in competition for several years. Thousands of rounds driven hard through the gun and not even a hiccup of any kind, let alone due to the lock.

If you can find a pre lock S&W 686 in your travels buy it. If not...The Ruger is a solid revolver also.
