I have a 6906 and love it. Do you know the S&W 'codes'?
The last digit on these 3rd Gen Semis that end in "6" indicate that it's a stainless frame with a stainless finish. So yes, the 5904 is the non-stainless version of this 5900 platform.
Quick research indicates the 5906's were made from approximately 1988-1999, so they're not particularly rare, although there were several variants that are more rare due to small volume.Comment

I’ve been looking, as I have one which was a friend’s dad’s carry weapon and he now would like to buy it back.
I’ve been looking at GB, and most of them are ranging from $450 - 550.
I see a site listing one for $599.99 just with a quick search on my phone.
I think it’s a well-made firearm and love the stainless frame and finish. It fits me well, and the one I have shoots great.

Keystone Arms sells only the best examples of firearms, etc. If you want a particular quality model Colt, they most likely can get it for you but it will come with a quality price.
Several years ago I bought a pristine set of period correct walnut grips from Keystone Arms for my Python, came in the original NOS Colt factory wrapping, paid a premium price but every time I look at that Python I think back how lucky I was to even find them in that condition.Comment

Never thought they would go up in price that high!
I had my first experience handling and shooting them around 1988/89, my first dance with the 9 mm. It was a rental gun in a shooting range in Milpitas, CA. I wanted to buy one but couldn't afford it. Asking price was then a smidgen above $500.00 without tax if I remember right.
And while nice compared to most 9 mm handguns that I saw in the shooting range retail area, I was more enamored of the Colt Gold Cup and Colt Double Eagle on display. My brother-in-law bought a Colt Double Eagle few years earlier and we shot it some. A few years later around 1991, I bought a six inch Smith 686 from the San Francisco Gun Exchange. But foolishly, I traded it for......a new 2nd Gen Glock 17. Stupid decision on my part. Can't change what I did.
