OP, if you want to get "forever need to improve toy" get any Glock you can find, if you want to "spend once-cry once", get P320. P320 can be configure to any "flavor" you want to, with GLOCK you will spend the same amount as for P320 for change flavor, to just make it sort of OKish. Your call.

I currently have a SA 1911 Loaded, CZ SP-01 and P-01... I purchased the Springfield first and it shoots very nice, I've got big-ish hands and feel like the CZ fits in my hand better and also shoots really nice... not sure I'd get rid of either. However I did have a G34 for 200rds....and just didn't care for it.

Funny first handgun I learned to shoot was a S&W 686 ... and just picked one up for myself

The CZ 75 BD is still on the roster. They are still available new for a reasonable price if one shops a little bit.
D stands for decocker for those that don't know.
There's another CZ model or two on the roster with a decocker that would be ok for HD, just not full size. The P01 is one.

Given that you only have 2 handguns and they are both revolvers, is learning a new trigger pull going to be an issue for you? Most modern striker pistols have light and short triggers compared to your revolvers. If you want something with a trigger comparable to your revolvers then look for a DA hammer fired pistol, Beretta and CZ make some. If you want something similar but with a bit more versatility, look for a DA/SA hammer fired pistol. This will give you a heavy long double action trigger pull on the first shot, and light crisp single action pulls on subsequent shots. If none of this matters, there are hundreds of options out there for you to choose from. You can learn how to use any system with practice and training. These days you really can't go wrong with any pistol that's on the market. All the big brand names are going to be quality products it just comes down to personal preference and subjective feel. You have to get them in your hands and see what fits you best

CZ SP-01 is a great handgun. P226 Mk25 is not bad either, but like someone said above, the higher bore axis is not for everyone.

Go to your local rental gun range a try out the Sig, CZ, HK, Beratta 1911s before trying out any Glocks. CZ75, Beratta Brigadier, Sig P226 would be my first pick.

I do see there is an SS MK25 that is CA legal. That looks very nice. Anyone know how it compares to the CZ75 SP-01?

I should qualify my feeling about cost. I am OK buying new, higher-end gun but do will not be gouged on places like Gunbroker.

I assume "off-roster" means I would be buying from a private party? I am not really interested in buying used. Right or wrong, I sort of have a "buy only new" policy.

A Used Vp9 bought via private party will run circles around a Glock. And used is usually mint condition with a few hundred rds through it. So my advice is to get over your buy only new bias. It's unwarranted and limiting.

To the @OP - if you are willing to put the time/effort - a stock Glock can be as capable as P320 (or in my experience, even an X5). And the skill you develop with it can be carried with any other gun out there. Do not go for using hardware to solve a software problem.

While I initially stuck with the OP’s list - SP-01, G19 and MK25. Here are my thoughts:

• BD - no rail. As a HD firearm, my preference is to have a WML.
• P-01 - Love the form factor. Love the weight (aluminum). Just like the SP-01, an established workhorse. Albeit, the decocker doesn’t work for my grip - #trainingScar (still looking for a thin profile, if indeed available).

I would go with a metal framed hammer fired. Plastic frames are a compromise to reduce cost, and maybe weight. Neither are a concern for OP. Glocks are very polarizing even if you like plastic frames because the grip angle is horrible.

At any rate, with no budget limits I'd go SIG P226 or a variant like a MK25.

OP, I didn’t realize this immediately (my mistake) but instead of asking what’s best, you can go to any decent range and just rent them. $15 plus box of their overpriced ammo gives you access to buffet of handguns (including some off roasters, depending on location).

Observations from the last visit:

Sig 25, like some said here, “not for me” (and I almost bought one blindly before that, whew..)

Almost anything CZ felt great, P-01 surprised a lot for size/performance ratio

92FS looked much better than performed

1911 9mm was ridiculously easy to shoot but felt like strictly range toy.

Sig Something (prolly 320) with red dot was ok but nothing special and laughable at off roaster prices.
Overall nothing off roaster felt even remotely worth current market prices.

USP 9 was surprisingly great. Would like to have one but not at today’s $1.1K+ price

Favs outside Glock: SP/P-01, USP9 (plus maybe 1911 9mm). That’s about it on roaster.
