Just a standard Custom II plus the engraving so yes, CA legal.

Funny you post a pic of an AC-130... We put a group of those guys together with Kimber and they're doing a nice stainless version. They have the AC-130 on one side and the old "AC-47" Goonybird on the other, very cool.

I personally don't really dig stainless on full size 1911's but the engraving they are getting is going to be nice.

Update!

I picked up my weapon yesterday, finally! It really is a great firearm, and obviously something special that will be passed on to the next generation. As a matter of fact my daughter has already laid claim to it, designating it a family heirloom. If it's ever displayed It'll have to be with the picture of the airplane that is now engraved on the grip. Kimber took a picture I supplied and converted into a line drawing format they could use. The fact that I'm flying the plane that's now an element of the engraving is pretty cool.

Some of the guys have chosen not to shoot thiers, I'll take extra care to limit wear, but it wont be a safe queen.

As a matter of fact, mine already has 100 rounds through it. After I got home with it I cycled it and dry fired it a bit, dissassembled, cleaned, lubed and reassembled. Then it was out to the pasture for some quality break-in time. I did all my shooting yesterday offhand at 10 meters or so. The pistol is highly accurate, and 100% reliable with with the stock or kimpro 8 rnd mags. I'm out of practice, but the first round was dead center in the bull, then after I fired the second round I had to walk to the target to see the now enlongated first hole! Then the pressure was on, it was obvious any poor grouping was going to be on me. There were plenty of flyers trough the 100 rounds, but they weren't the weapons fault. After 23 rounds (one 7 and two 8 rnd mags) I had a nice ragged 2" hole with one flyer. At 50 rounds I field stripped it and added a touch of oil here and there since I want to break it in pretty wet.

So, basically it shoots as good as it looks! I'm gonna have to get a 4" Kimber now I guess for a primary shooter / carry gun. The wife is behind me on that since she doesn't want to see me damage the commemorative. Oh darn.
