I have not shot the gun or trigger yet. So the 3.25lb break is just from the Dynamic trigger system and the green spring.

The red spring did have a slightly softer reset but it was still acceptable.

The trigger info is interesting. I'm running the stock trigger in a Q5 and it could be better. Walther is showing in stock right now on the trigger and it is tempting......

No knock on Earl’s Repair (guy’s just trying to run a business)—but Walther is selling the complete Dynamic trigger kit for wayyyyy less. I’d jump on it before they go OOS if you’re interested.

I just installed a kit on my Q5 SF today with the Springco spring set.

Verdict: very pleased.

I picked up the PDP today and have to say that all 4 of these triggers have a very different pull feel, stages and weights.. (just dry firing, not live firing which is different)

Stock PPQ Q5 Match
Stock PDP
Dynamic Performance
Apex PPQ Forward Set


I'll need some time to shot them to give an update but I would be happy with any of them compared to the standard striker fired pistols. I'll give a break down of my opinions of them once I get a chance to shoot some side by side.

I bit the bullet and purchased a Sprinco TSK Competition Trigger Kit and I'm very happy with it. I put it in the Q5 with Dynamic trigger and the pull weight is exactly 3 pounds and feels a lot better. Also, the firing pin safety spring helps lighten the second stage which I didn't like at first so that's an added benefit.

I measured the stock PDP trigger and it is exactly 4 pounds and has a good feel too.

I think I might get another Sprinco kit and try it with the Apex trigger so I can get a side by side comparison.

I tried to purchase a Granulate Talon grip for the PDP and they do not sell one because it doesn't stick to the grip texture. (the rubber ones do though but I like the Granulate)

From just dry firing and handling, I think I'll stick with the PPQ Q5 Match and figure out whether I shoot the Dynamic or Apex better and call it a done deal.

Costs:

$5 Overwatch trigger return spring (from SkyHawk's post)
$18 Sprinco PPQ TSK Competition Trigger Kit (2 small springs)
$25 Walther PPQ Q5 Match trigger from Walther (stock bar and pad)
$130 Apex Forward Set Trigger for PPQ (modified bar and oversized flat faced pad)
$179 Walther Dynamic Performance Trigger (factory bar, special pad and housing)


Simple recap, the trigger return springs do lighten the pull weight and the firing pin safety spring lightens and smooths out the take up.
The Apex has a different feel from the rest and is really good.
The Dynamic is an upgrade from the stock PPQ and PDP.

Having spent the funds and playing around with it, I'd still be happy with the stock PPQ or PDP triggers, the other stuff is just "upgrades" to an already nice trigger.

I don't have an Overwatch trigger, I was just referencing the springs that SkyHawk purchased above. I have an Apex and Dynamic with a Sprinco Kit. The Sprinco Kit would lighten up and smooth out any trigger and would make the stock ones better.

The Apex has a consistent and short take up, crisp and light break and a very positive reset.

The Dynamic has a longer 2 stage take up with 2 different weights. It has a crisp break as well with a shorter over travel and reset than the Apex but it's less positive on the reset.

They have 2 different feels and are subjective to the user. My "biased" opinion from use would be the Apex trigger with Sprinco Kit but until I shoot the Dynamin with Sprinco Kit I will not know for sure. (I say biased because I've been using the Apex for a while now and I'm used to it but I'm not counting out the Dynamic until I actually shoot it)

If you're happy with the stock trigger, pick up a spring kit and see how that works before dropping the extra cash. If you're looking for a different pull feel, try the Apex or Dynamic.

I own two stock PPQs: a M1 Q5 and a M2 PPQ 5", both with stock FCUs with about a 4.5lb break. I'm not a "crisp break" kind of guy but these two are good enough for me. On the other hand, the stock PDP long pre-travel is just not acceptable after the outstanding PPQ series.

I did shoot the Apex trigger on a PPQ once when it first came out, but the springs on that pistol were basically stock. In all fairness it shot about as good as my old Apex 1.0 M&P trigger, which went down to under 4 lbs after a few thousands rounds. AT the time it was not worth the time and money to convert.

So I would look into the Apex option now with Spinco springs and make a decision after I get to shoot it before I drop some serious change.

I was able to stop by the range this morning and man the Dynamic trigger is nice!

I didn't like the long and 2 stage take up but the Sprinco firing pin safety spring pretty much took away that feel when actually firing it. (that's why I always live fire instead of just dry firing before I make a decision)

It does have a shorter post travel and reset than the Apex but I still like the shorter take up and stiff rest of the Apex. I'll put the Apex back in with the Sprinco kit and decide which one will stay in the pistol. (and I'll offer the other if anyone wants to try it) I'm open to either and will be happy with whatever feels more comfortable to me on the range.

I'll make one last update once I get to shoot the Apex with the Sprinco and this will be a done deal.

Edit: I did find out I prefer the Q5 Match frame over the "Full Size" PDP frame. I'm looking to trade the like new Full Size for a 5" Compact so I can have a direct comparison and will make the final decision after that to see if the PDP will replace the Q5 for me. At this point I'm sticking with the Q5, although I do think the PDP is cosmetically more appealing. Also, the Q5 has a Talon Granulate grip which I prefer far more than the slick plastic frame of the PDP even with the new texturing it has. (the sandpaper grip feels like it glues the frame to my hand in the same exact position every time)

Final Opinion:


Although I do prefer the shorter and smoother take up and more positive rest "click" of the Apex, I'm going with the Walther Dynamic Trigger with Sprinco kit. (to be fair I did not try the Apex with the Dynamic trigger housing which would have shortened the over travel and rest and may have been the best overall pull for me)


Comparing the bars, you can see the where the Apex was modded and the Dynamic mimics that profile. (I think the Apex has an offset shoe which shortens the take up and makes it a single stage) Also, the Dynamic has a flat faced trigger like the Apex so they kind of have a similar upgrade over stock. The Dynamic safety tab does have a lighter and smoother feel than the Apex but during live fire that is not noticed at all. (just when slowly dry firing) Kind of like the 2 stage take up of the Dynamic is not noticed at all during live fire.


My recommendation for others: If I was at the bench doing bullseye shooting I'd get the Dynamic. If I was doing a tactical/competition style shooting I'd go with the Apex. (both with the Sprinco kit)
