    Canik handguns

Does anyone have and firsthand experience with Canik handguns? I keep seeing them at gun shows and they are dirt cheap. Just wondering if they are any good.

My experience with TP9SF; ergonomic, reliable, serviceable, trigger is decent.
Canik's are GTG, if you can pick one up at a reasonable price I say go ahead.

      They are good to go

The new Mete line shows some serious promise and are hard to get right now.

I sold mine to fund a project. I had the Executive Elite which is a complete Salient build. Salient barrel, salient trigger and mag well. Best trigger on any gun to include a custom REM 700 trigger. I will buy another one, so….

They are very well made Walther P99 clones.

Caniks are good to go. They are manufactured in Turkey, so the labor is cheaper. Nils Jonasson shoots Caniks in USPSA so they are tested in harsh environment.

Great bang for the buck (youtube some unboxing videos - you really get a lot for low prices), and relative easy to service (many compare it to "Glocks"). Only downside (from what I've heard) is finding parts may be a PITA (especially replacement OE parts) and not a crazy amount of aftermarket parts yet like the more established brands.

I shot my buddy's TP9SFX during a range day and fell in love with it immediately. Low recoil and shoots like an expensive comp gun when they only retail for $400 - $500. Finally found a fellow Calgunner who was willing to let one go last month.

Thanks guys. I saw a Tp9sf for $299 and a Tp9sfx for $449 at the gun show in Waco last weekend. Seemed too good to be true, but now I think I’ll pick one up.

I bought a TP9 SFX just cause it was $400.00. Haven't shot more than a few mags through it, but it's a decent enough plastic gun. Comes with good sights and is optic ready if that's your bag.

You can get a really nice trigger by just replacing the firing pin plunger spring to a Glock reduced power unit, and the striker spring to a Glock 6 lb spring. Short reset, no creep, no over-travel. Had a long pre-travel, but who cares about pre-travel... I'm into the gun for about $415.00, not including extra mags and holster, just gun and gun upgrades.

That’s a great price. Thanks for the info on the spring upgrades. Which model Glock springs did you use?

They are awesome PPQ clones. The TP9SFX is an amazing value.

                      Only cons:
                      1. The slide is blocky and heavy, not as slender and well balanced as the PPQ.
                      2. The magazines are expensive

I’ve handled a Canik before and it seemed to be pretty nice, not sure which one but I remember the slide was ported. If it was on list I’d get one just to have…

I recall the guy saying he sells most of them in the Southern US, they seem to have a following there.

I can't remember the mfr of the firing pin plunger spring, but it was the reduced power spring. Got rid of the hitch in the pre-travel.

The six lb striker spring was a stock Glock spring, apparently Canik springs are rather robust.

You can get a reduced power recoil assembly for free by contacting the importer, they send them out pretty quick.

They're pretty popular here in Arizona too.

Mags were $25.00, look like the same tubes as CZ and Beretta, different mag catch location though. Made by Mec Gar.
