Word on the block is chamber indicators are nothing more than silly "safety features" CA DOJ requires manufactures to have on their firearms. How do YOU feel about it? Silly firearm neutering or a necessary safety feature?

How do YOU feel about chamber indicators?

Walther P38 had one way back in the day so they've been around a while. I'm good with just an extractor sticking out a little bit more than when empty because it's going to anyways or none at all. No need for more crap, determining whether a firearm is loaded should not be determined by looking at some added feature that could indicate incorrectly.
"Yeah, like... well, I just want to slap a hippie or two. Maybe even make them get jobs."

The kind that are built into the extractor, or witness holes to the chamber, are fine by me.
The kind that are mandated by CA and come with extra crap that have nothing to do with making the gun run, and that can and *have* caused guns to become inop when they break - those are a hard pass for me.Comment

I don’t mind them, what I do mind is the huge writing that comes with them on some Sigs"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them" - Richard Henry Lee

They do seem silly and for me it depends on the gun. There is one on my XD but it is same color as the firearm so not really obtrusive. It was definitely a deal breaker for my Sig P226 MK 25, just feel that true warriors would never have a big red flag popping out on their weapon.sigpicComment

"All guns are always loaded."
That maxim has done more for my safety than some stupid little doohickey ever did, or ever could do.NRA Benefactor Life Member, SAF Life Member, CCRKBA Life Member
Gavin Newsom is a lying, cheating slickster andwill beis the worst mistake California has ever madeif he getsnow that he has been elected Governor. Hollywood movie producers look to him and his oleaginous persona as a model for the corrupt "bad guy" politician character. This guy is so greasy, he could lubricate an entire arsenal of AR-15s just by breathing on them.Comment

IMO, loaded chamber indicators and mag disconnect safeties just dumb down many gun owners.
They can both fail to indicate a loaded chamber or fail to prevent the gun from being fired with the mag out.
So if you rely on these crutches instead of Rule #1, you could learn the hard (and tragic) way someday.
Nothing replaces rule #1. All guns are always loaded (until confirmed otherwise)Comment

I was going to remove one... I found myself grabbing a gun one night in low light and I felt the LCI before I went to chamber check.
I dont think they will prevent a single accident
Education and the 4 rules save people and minimize NDRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

So long as you don't rely on them and actually check the chamber manually yourself, I could care less. Mag check/chamber check/mag check every time and you won't have an incident.Comment

Agreed. The kind that are built into the extractor, or witness holes to the chamber, are fine by me.

Back when I was still living in CA, I remember visibly grimacing at how ridiculously obvious some of the LCI's on CA-model pistols were; big three that came to mind off the top of my head were the Ruger Mk III pistols, the CA-legal Sig P226/229 pistols, and the CA-legal M&P Shield; all of them had that hideous LCI that protruded out from the slide with some gaudy red paint and "LOADED" in big white print right along the length of it. You may as well have just advertised that whoever is holding it needs to be treated like an idiot that has to have an LCI that bold and easily to spot to know whether their pistol is loaded or not.Comment

Indifferent. Neither need or not need, neither care or not care.
And they don't come on Single Action Army revolvers, naturally by design nor for a feasible way to implement one - to which Alec Baldwin can testify.
Of course, it wasn't his job to make sure the gun wasn't loaded, as we have heard time and time again; he didn't pull the trigger, she told him to do it, he wasn't there, he was glamping in Martha's Vineyard at the time (yeah, that was it!) - could not have been him - but even if it was him and he did pull the trigger, the gun's to blame for not having had a loaded chamber indicator in order to let his handlers know the gun was loaded, so his handlers could let him know, that the gun was loaded.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?Comment
