People on Calguns.net often have off-roster handgun experience or ownership. It might help if the OP posted the correct model number (692, not 962), but it's not my post/thread.

Is it or would it be legal to own or possess in CA? Yes.

My thoughts are, for me, not to waste time & money on Taurus vs. going with some other brand. I've only had Smith & Wesson or Ruger revolvers, but these brands could have some problems show up, too, I must admit.

I have an uncle that is a die hard Taurus fan. He swears by them. He has the means to buy whatever he wants, but it's always a Taurus in his pocket. From what I understand if your Taurus has problems, they will make it right for you, similar to Ruger.

Taurus is hit or miss. And it’s not that bad, I would rather have Taurus as truck gun than ruger because the price

Doesn’t Ruger make some? If anyone can name some that are California legal please put them out here.

Ruger has a Blackhawk convertible that can handle both 357mag and 9mm. The only catch is it's a single action revolver.

Not sure if it's still on the roster.

The thing about the "roster" is that it only forbids dealers from selling off-roster guns. Off-roster guns are completely legal in California. Private parties can still buy and sell off-roster guns, unless there are other restrictions like threaded barrel...and stuff.

By the way, I do have 2 Taurus revolvers. One was fantastic, never had a problem, love it! The other one I bought used, had a failure with cylinder. Forgot the exact issue. I sent it back to Taurus and it was fixed free of charge. I had to pay for shipping though. Keep in mind I was not the original owner but Taurus didn't mind.

The Taurus is a little unique in that it is DA/SA and shoots .38/.357 and has a second cylinder for 9mm.

I don’t think there is another one like it. If there is let me know. So far I’ve seen similar, one of the Ruger’s shoot the calibers but is only SA.

I hvae one and shot over 300rds in 357/38 and about 100rds of 9mm. No issues
