You've just announced this is your 1st time, but I still think 99% of the folks on here will treat you right.

You'll have to look out for the oddball that wants to "play w/you" w/absolutely no intention of buying.

Say no to the selfishness of someone who says they want to buy the gun but doesn'tt have the money, asking you to wait a week. The gun isn't sold until the cash is in you hand.

Taking 48 hrs to get the money together is more than generous, no longer.

The worst *** here, and there's only one of him, wanted me to wait for my money, demanded I sell him the gun, and badmouthed me when I wouldn't, and then sent me a nasty PM.

Somebody wants the gun, they KNOW they should have the money ready.

After the pics are looked at, after he listens to you about the gun, and he decides to buy, he's got no business trying to renegotiate the price, claim he didn't know what he was buy, or he was confused.

Like I said, most here will treat you right and their word is good.

But a couple will try to play w/you to get attention and then they will disappear.

You have WarVets, and LEO'S and everything in between, so you'll be OK.

    Good luck

Don’t bump your post with “SOLD” once you sold the item.

As Bobby Ocean said above, get familiar with the rules. Everything else has been covered well about FTF and Cash Only.

it does happen so put a $$$ amount to compensate your time, gas and lost sales.

While some may consider me too hard or rigid, but if the sale falls through because or an error on the buyer's part or it turns out the buyer is legally ineligible, I feel no obligation to provide a refund.

Once the transaction is completed at the FFL, I not longer own the gun. The buyer is the legal owner. While under California law the buyer cannot take possession of his property for 10 days and must pass the required background requirements, I am not in the picture.

If the buyer is refused possession, he can always make a deal with the FFL to sell it on consignment.

Ive had nothing but great face to face interactions with members here when I've either bought or sold a firearm through the classifieds or met someone face to face to buy/sell misc. gear (it's the online jerks/online personalities that make this site a real shame unfortunately).

Use common sense, avoid buyers who have a join date of yesterday with no iTrader history, only accept whoever form of payment you are willing to accept, and meet them inside the FFL and not at any other shady location beforehand. If your terms are reasonable and they actually want the firearm they'll make it happen. Also post your location. This is something a lot of listings seem to forget. California is a big state!

I've never had anyone flake on me, and have never flaked on anyone after agreeing to meet, but I guess that happens. Comes with the territory.

Only gripe I do have are buyers/sellers who don't leave feedback. I've gone through the trouble of leaving them positive feedback and they don't leave any. As a new member here those feedback scores are important early on to establish and show others you are dependable and reliable. Not leaving feedback for others, especially when you left them feedback isn't cool.

Learn how to imbed pictures and use an image hosting service. It blows my mind how so many here either refuse to, or cannot figure out how to post a decent size picture. Pictures are what sell your item. Take a few extra minutes to take a nice photo of the firearm and do it justice. It usually pays off. So many listings here won't have a picture posted, attach a micro-sized photo that you can't even see, or say "text for pictures". If someone isn't bright enough to learn how to take and post a decent picture of whatever it is they are selling, I probably don't want to have to go through the hassle of dealing with and relying on them to come through in person and not screw something up.

Avoid doing the PPT at any Bass Pro Shop (and most other big box chain stores). I've bought a few new firearms from big box chains and that process luckily has been quick and without any issues for the most part. But PPT's at these stores are usually a different story. I did a PPT once with a fellow CG'er at a Bass Pro Shop in San Jose and we were there for several hours! Both of us knew what we were doing, were prompt, had all our documentation in order and it was all correct, etc., yet it still took them over 2 hours to get paperwork started for an on-roster handgun. For whatever reason these big box stores just suck when it comes to PPT's. On the flip side I sold a Beretta 92FS to a fellow CG'er and did the PPT at an LGS and we were in and out of there in 10-15 minutes tops.

Oh, and if you actually want to sell your firearm...don't stipple it.

Ask the CG users in the previous ammo deals you made to leave you feedback.

"I've never had anyone flake on me, and have never flaked on anyone after agreeing to meet, but I guess that happens. Comes with the territory."

I did and it wasn't hilarious then, but enough time has past that I can laugh it off now.

Guy messages me he want's to buy my gun. He checks out pics, commits to buy the gun.

When talking about the issue of pics, it's important to recognize some of the subtle tricks some folks pull when showing pics of guns.

Some guns are photographed dark on purpose, and if you buy the gun, and you've got a problem, the response back w/be "you saw the pics, which are part of the description, get lost".

Postage size shots of guns don't show you anything/no detail. Scratches, scuffs, and wear become obvious in a close-up, they disappear the farther you get from the gun in a pic.

That's how you photograph a messed up gun, and disguise its flaws in a pic.

There's no reason to upload out of focus pics, don't assume that's by accident, many will disguise problems w/a gun that way, and insist later that you saw the pics, so no return.

This guy commits to buying my gun, I'm left handed and mention that to him, and that the safety can be switched left or right, and that's up to him.

We make an appt. near where he lives, to do a ppt. which is more convenient for him than me, but "what the hell".

He flakes out of the appt. texting me that he tried to do something else, and can't make it on time.

He asks me to meet him a little later. Then texts me again; says he can't
                      make it to 2nd appt.

He asks me if we can do the deal on Monday, I accomodate him and say yes.

During that weekend somebody messages me, wanting the gun, I tell them I have a pending sale.

During the weekend the guy whose already stood me up twice, texts me that he's noticed that the safety is left handed, which is a fact I've already made clear to him, along w/a clear pic/close-up of the safety, and my stating to him that he'll have to switch the safety.

When I remind him of that, he says he was excited, he's new to shotguns, and wants to re-negotiate the price. My answer is "NO"

At this point I know I'm dealing w/an inconsiderate and spoiled child, who makes a "mess" he doesn't want to be responsible for.

I ask him if he's showing up for the 3rd appt., Monday (since he's stood me up twice and I now have a buyer waiting in the wings) and he responds to this question with "I'm not going to buy the gun w/your attitude." which is his excuse to back out of the sale.

Luckily the gentleman who contacted me while this was going on, followed through, got to the FIRST agreed on appt. ON TIME, w/the cash, to do a respectful and pleasant transaction.

I'm an old time ebay guy w/several hundred deals @ 100% feedback, and what I've got here, so I bring up the 2 sour deals as exceptions to fabulous folks I've done business with, and the gentleman I met and sold the gun to was a pleasure to deal with, and made up for the silliness of the first individual.

BTW: i'm actually relieved and thankful that the right guy got my gun.

Tip #3, let the buyer come to you. You choose the FFL.

Tip #4, ask potential buyers for a contact number. If no verbal communication via phone, move on
Be a little flexible on Tip #3; the buyer has to make two trips to the FFL, you only have to make one... Any reputable storefront FFL should be OK... I've met sellers at FFL's that are out of the way because a seller insisted; the second trip sucked....

Ask the 2 ammo sellers to give you an iTrader feedback. 2 is way better than 0.
