Since Chabot closed my shooting has been limited to OR home trips. Scored some good reloading and ammo deals up there. Actually found SP primers "on sale" for $35.00 per 1K.

FWIW, I just drove cross country (Maine to SF) and had not much trouble finding ammo. Lots of 9mm, mostly no limits. Grabbed a Winchester white box 500 count at Cabelas HD for $169.00.

Hopefully some of this good news makes its way to CA.

Re the mags, I think a screw anchoring top & bottom will help with the hold.
no if you infiltrate the magazine it will stop the follower what i would do is find some steel the right thickness as the block and do a quick plug weld (drill hole quick zap weld you dont want a burn through)
top and bottom with a mig hmm maybe soldering a rod on it would be better it doesnt have to be full width the sides of the mag should handle straightness

Understood. I was going to let the screw self tap into the mag body, clean it flush & red loctite. I think I can manage a weld.

My ammo is Czech military. Any "too hot" issues?

I read that the 7.62 magazine loaded with 9mm will reliably feed and chamber the shorter 9mm ammo.

I have the 54-1 with the original serialized 7.62 Tok barrel and 2 magazines. I also have the extra 9mm and .38 Super barrels with extra bushing but I have have not yet tried firing the gun with these extra barrels.

My 7.62 barrel and magazines just arrived. Took a touch of file work to fit the link and pin but otherwise easy. The 7.62 and 9mm barrel bushing each fitted both barrels, not sure why the internet says they aren't interchangeable.

If my 9mm snap caps are any indication the 7.62 mags work fine in the shorter cartridge.

Have to admit, I always kind of turned up my nose at these guns. I cleaned up the sear, hammer and internals and while the slide to frame fit isn't exactly CNC quality it'll do.

yea 9 can work in a normal tok mag but sometimes the stack can tip a bit and cause the top one to jam if it does just load the mag with 7 rounds

if you look at these two 9mm barrels you can see why some need a different size barrel bushing, the conversion barrel on the left is made to the same outside dimension as the standard 7.62 Tokarev bbl , the 9mm bbl installed on the right has a thicker outside diameter that would need a larger bushing for the thicker barrel.

Thank you. I miked the OD of my barrels & they're each about .495". Looking down the muzzle it's noticeable the 9mm barrel has thinner walls than the 7.62. I guess I now have a spare bushing.

Be careful with that gun, it's not drop safe. Twenty some years ago a guy here in CA dropped his, it went off and killed his son.
