    Norinco 213

I started DROS on a Norinco 213. It comes with the usual plastic grips and has the import required thumb safety. I want to replace the grips with wood types. I'm removing the thumb safety, which is located in the "1911 position" so the grips will have to extend back to cover the dimples, screw holes.

Learning about the gun I see the grips are held on by flat spring steel on the inside of the grip frame - couple of questions.

Do replacement grips come with the attachments, or are they bought separate or switched from the originals? Am I limited to 213 model grips or do grips for other versions work also?

Any suggestions on what to buy appreciated.

These ones "come with metal assembly".

I think most will but always check before buying.

Their website also says "Flat grips made for Tokarev TT-33 will fit this gun fine."

(Sorry, I don't have any personal experience with them to recommend any brand/type or other pistols cross fitting though.)

IIRC the original retainers are riveted to the grips, so they would not be easy to move to another set.

It is very nice that someone makes grips to cover that hole!

Did some checking and that seems to be the case with most. I also see some with a threaded nut & slotted head so they can be tightened. Pretty ingenious.

Thank you - had seen these before but couldn't recall website or name.

any good grips should have the metal installed since its not really typical user attachable

also the 213 often has the mag spacer pinned in there and the grips may need to be filed around that area to fit

its a chinese tok so it is never going to look good just see if you can get the tokegypt ones they are more comfortable and they hug the safety

Re the spacer, I've read there are "narrow" 9mm magazines & 9mm magazines to be used with the spacer grip - that 213 grip frames originally using the 7.62 Tokarev have a spacer, and 9mm magazines for those pistols won't fit the "narrow" grip frame. Don't know which one I got, wasn't aware when I bought. With my luck, since the "narrow" mags are more expensive and having a gun with the spacer can be converted to 7.62 Tokarev, which I'd like as an option, my guess is I have the "narrow".

no there are 2 types of conversions one they put a small bar in the back of the inside of the well and use less long magazines the other type uses standard tokarev magazines bodies but inside uses a little block different spring and follower to set the bullets forward

Thanks. The mag that came with the gun did seem a bit wide, I suspect it and not the mag well uses a spacer.

the ones ive seen that have the spacermag always look way better than the standard 213 (which i have) they have the blackest blueing and the serrations do not get clogged up with skin cells i use mine to shave down my foot calluses

i have a mental quandry with these mine came with a matching serial magazine and a spare that had a mismatched number last 4 digits only

but i am trying to figure this out because if every gun comes with one matching mag and one oddball mag where are all these oddball mags coming from or are there a bunch that don't have the matching magazine?

also say they made a million of them what are the odds of me finding another magazine that has my last 4 digits?

and someone at norinco was making spare magazines but every one i see has a 4 digit stamp on it so are they just putting rando 4 digits on each one they make

yea i know i'm crazy but this is the stuff that keeps me up at night

Picked up the gun yesterday, have done some reading up and bought a few accessories. The gun has the 7.62 width grip and the magazine that came with it has an internal spacer for the shorter 9mm cartridge. Jumping the gun a bit, I'd already bought the smaller (which I see referred to as "narrow") 9mm magazines. That don't fit ......

                      But I have a plan.

I bought a 7.62 barrel and barrel bushing. Also bought some 7.62 magazines. This gets me a 7.62 Tokarev with an easy swap out. Re the not so cheap 9mm magazines already bought, using epoxy and a single screw to attach a delrin spacer to the exterior rear of the 9mm magazines makes them fit the larger magwell. Whether the 9mm cases sit a bit forward within the larger magazine or the entire magazine sits farther forward in the mag well, doesn't seem to make a difference so far as I can see.

With the above set up I can use 7.62 Tokarev, with a barrel/bushing swap use any modified 9mm mag - the outside spacer ones I bought and whatever internal spacer ones I come across for a good price.

                      Should work?

if you can get the epoxy to hold on to delrin and chineeum it should work

i know it is extremely difficult to get the 213 magazines with the spacer inside

it sounds great to be able to just do a barrel and mag swap for tokarev ammo

not sure where you are getting all this tokarev ammo

ive been making 9mm ammo out of dive weights and my cci 556 primers
i hate wasting them primers like that but ill be damned before i pay 50cents for a 9mm bullet

the M213 ejection port might be a little small / short for the 7.62 conversion?

it seems easier to convert the TYPE 54-1 to 9mm since the ejection port is slightly longer for the 7.62 case to eject properly

I bought one of those PPsh43 guns a few years back, stocked up on ammo and realized the gun was a bit of a waste for me. I've got about 2K rounds in a bucket.

Since Chabot closed my shooting has been limited to OR home trips. Scored some good reloading and ammo deals up there. Actually found SP primers "on sale" for $35.00 per 1K.

FWIW, I just drove cross country (Maine to SF) and had not much trouble finding ammo. Lots of 9mm, mostly no limits. Grabbed a Winchester white box 500 count at Cabelas HD for $169.00.

Hopefully some of this good news makes its way to CA.

Re the mags, I think a screw anchoring top & bottom will help with the hold.

Good point. The ejection port is + .25" longer than a 9mm so I figure it's OK.
