Question...what is the difference between the CZ75 and the CZ75 B?

Pictures are the easiest way to show the obvious differences between a CZ75 and the CZ75B model. They phased out the CZ75 when they came out with the "B". I am pretty sure you won't have to worry about finding a early CZ75 in Commiefornia as I believe they were never on the roster (somebody let me know if I'm wrong about that) and the only way one would turn up is as a private sale. Generally the early CZ75 and the pre "B" guns tend to bring a premium.

Obvious differences are the pre "B" has a spur hammer and rounded trigger guard. The serrations on the slide are different along with several more subtle differences in the frame and slide contours along with the slide release and decocker being shaped differently. In stock form, the grips are different.

In addition to the obvious external differences, the "B" model was upgraded with an internal firing pin safety.




This one is a transitional model commonly called a pre "B" as opposed to the first model CZ75. The pre "B" version is easily identified by longer slide rails and shorter slide-step than the earliest models with the heavily stepped slide and short slide rails. I don't have a first model CZ75, just the pre "B" and don't have an archived picture.

If it was me, I'd go with whatever model had the decocker, and avoid the models with the manual safety.

My first firearm was a Beretta 92FS. I thought as a new shooter that the manual safety would be a good thing. An extra safety measure is always better, right? Took that firearm to a class and quickly realized the safety on a Beretta could potentially get you killed. During malfunction drills it's very easy to accidentally knock that safety back on when running the slide. You'd then point in, and instead of a bang you get a dead trigger. Not a good thing to have happen in the heat of the moment if your life depends don it. Before that multi-day class was even over I ordered a decocker kit from Beretta and installed in once I got home. Months later took the same class with the same firearm, decocker kit installed and was a night and day difference. One less thing to worry about if things ever go sideways, while keeping in mid that if it was an actual real-world situation where I really needed to use this firearm to defend my life, stress levels through the roof, it would magnify things exponentially compared to being in a class.

Sure, the geometry/layout of the CZ is different than the Beretta, and the chances of you accidentally flipping that safety on are far less, but also keep in mind the more complicated that handgun is, the more stuff you'll have to worry about when SHTF means a greater chance that something will go wrong. Remembering to flip off a safety seems trivial, and you'll say to yourself, "who the heck would forget to do that?", but it's very possible when you're stressed and under pressure. Best advice would be whatever version you go with, safety or decocker, train with that firearm a ton so the motions are ingrained in your brain.

I don't think the original was ever officially imported. I've never seen one -- except mine. I got mine while the Iron Curtain was still up, and suspect it was smuggled out and eventually sold to a soldier who brought it back with him.

They're out there I've had 2 still have one. Some were imported during Cold War but they had a high tariff rate. Others were brought in legally by military members stationed in Germany. The rod and gun clubs sold them.

I think you'll like it; I love mine and recently picked up a .22LR Kadet II adapter kit and a set of LOK G10 palm swell grips.

If you like CZ75s, you will love the Tanfoglio line of pistols (such as European American Armory). What is nice about the Tanfoglio line are things like (a) multiple caliber conversion kits from the factory (.22lr, 38 super, 9mm, 40S&W, 41 AE, 10mm, 45ACP and some European calibers like 9x21) (b) installing an ambidextrous is simple (not possible on a CZ, since the frames are machined differently, you would need to get a CZ85) (c) several models are tuned from the factory (like the Xtreme line - has a VERY NICE trigger).

You might look into the CZ tactical sport line too. Probably one on the best single action triggers, other than custom 1911s.

That one is my favorite... after extended base plates on standard 75 mags. Stock grip is a little short.

Love my P-01 and Rami both w decockers. Looking for the elusive full size SP-01 Tactical (has decocker). I changed out the curved trigger on both mine for the old style (slightly straighter) trigger from Cajun Gun Works. Also added an extended mag release to the P-01 and used its mag release on the Rami to get a little more purchased on it.
The CZs are great IMO.

I have both the SP01 Phantom and SP01 Tactical.

I like the decocking CZs better.

Idodn't care for the trigger on my 75BD and sold it. The kadet 2 kit was very accurate.

people have been shooting 1911s for over a 100 years without issues, TRAIN, TRAIN and TRAIN some more same as you do with AR15s which have safeties on them.
