Gen1 Glock G17

So, I was out and about today picking up a PTR MP5 clone and ran into this Gen 1 G17 at the store. I don't really collect Glocks, but the price was right and it came with 5 Gen 1 magazines and a couple of Gen 3's. What I thought was really cool is that it still had the Tupperware box with the labels and the accessories.

Edited to add; by the serial number it was made in January 1987.

So, I have been doing some research on this pistol since I got it yesterday and have been educating myself a bit on early Glocks and so far this is what I have learned:

The internal parts of the action are all coated black, which more than likely indicates that it has never been upgraded with newer bits and the slide release is the original early style. Adding to my belief that this is the case is that it still has it's original non-captive recoil spring.

Serial number is CB039 with the Austrian barrel proof code ETY which stands for January, 1987. The label on the end of the box has the same serial number as that on the pistol so it is for sure the original box for this gun. A similar early box (called the "bullet box"), sold on Ebay recently for $500. The five early magazines are correct for this vintage gen1 G17 and are probably worth north of $100 each to the right guy that needs one for his gen1. Original owners manuals are dated by the month and year they were printed and the last one that sold on Ebay that would have been correct for this gun sold for $830. Looks like I am not going to get one of those. I may be a little OCD, but for that price I will just have to solider on without.

All in all I am pretty happy with this one and for $550 I figure I did okay.
